I find any person who doesn't support the securing of firearms in the presence of children disturbingly irresponsible. I support amending the 2nd Amendment to require gun owners to restrict access to their weapons to prevent unnecessary gun violence in much the same manner that the 21st Amendment nullified the 18th.
I'd go even further and say that all magazines in excess of 20 rounds should be required to have a serial number with a chain of custody that must be reported to the ATF upon sale of said magazine with fines if an owner fails to comply. All personal sales or transfers of guns should have to be reported to the ATF so they can keep track of the new owners. I love guns myself but too many of them are falling into the hands of criminals and we have to close up the loopholes that allow for access them.
That's a state by state thing now, CO requires all gun sales new and used have a background check, with the SN of the weapon as part of the data they collect.
There are millions and millions of unserialized high capacity magazines in the hands of owners already, dunno how a magazine registry could work. CO has a high capacity ban on magazines >15 rounds, and law enforcement says it's essentially unenforceable.
Under the current political climate, I don't see any new restrictions coming, in fact, if there are any, Trump will never win re-election.
The big push now is the HPA Hearing Protection Act, and we hope to make silencers more readily available. In many parts of the world, stores carry them in blister packs, Hollywood is wrong, they're far from "silent" and if you use a gun for self protection in a house, you cause permanent hearing damage.
Pro gun advocates are asking for a national concealed carry reciprocity law.
