Sandy Bridge setup, slow at changing graphics preferences...

Hi there.

I recently upgraded to SB, and although I am over all incredibly pleased, there is one thorn in the side in my setup. And I can not for the life of me figure out why it is happening.

Basically, any alteration to any major graphical setting (I.e. resolution, refreshrate, multiple display settings) or launching any game / full screen application makes the entire system halt for quite a while (~ 40 seconds) while the screen flickers a couple of times..

Here's how it looks while changing resolution through the CCC (same thing happens in all the examples):

Not sure it is relevant, but:
Previous setup was E8400, Asus P5Q Pro, 4 GB OCZ ram, HD5870 GFX card and 1x500GB WD HDD.

Upgraded it with i7-2600K, Asus P8P67 Deluxe 8GB Corsair XMS3 and 2x1TB Samsung F3 drives.

Thanks in advance

I assume you did a fresh install of windows with the hardware upgrades?

I would uninstall all of the ATI drivers, and CCC... then run something like DriveSweeper (free download).. and ensure everything is cleaned up, then reboot, and reinstall drivers for that card....

Yeah, I did a fresh install on one of the new F3 drives (wouldn't even boot with just the old HDD, tried it for fun. 😛)

Guess I'll try uninstalling then reinstalling fresh drivers then! I'll update when I've tried it, cheers.
