Sandy bridge notebooks on amazon.com and newegg affected by intel bug?

How does the bug affect these new notebooks such as the HP, asus, MSI etc. notebooks... I still see them offered on newegg and amazon.com

AFAIK all are affected. However, most notebooks only use two SATA ports (one HDD, one ODD). If the two SATA ports are ports 0,1 (the SATA 6G ports) then they will never experience this problem and thus are "safe." Whether the notebook manufacturer will continue shipping them is another matter. Also, some larger notebooks can handle multiple HDDs, and some notebooks have eSATA running off the chipset. In those cases, then some of the ports may have problems if you are the lucky 5-15% that Intel claims will experience the problem over the course of 3 years.

The 17" HP laptops are affected--the hard drive is on channel 0, and the DVD or Blu Ray is on 4 while eSATA is on port 5. Port 1 is left open for the second drive bay. I received my DV7 on the 26th, and I'm still waiting to see what HP is going to do.

FFS mine is one of the affected ones. I don't know what to do now because I got rid of my old laptop and they want me to return this one to Fry's. I love this thing so far but it'll probably be like 2 months until they get new ones released...they pulled the whole Qosmio line.

I bought a Toshiba Satellite from OfficeMax during their recent sale. Just called to get a RMA # and was told by the customer rep there would be a 15% restock fee since it's a return an not a replacement. I tried to explain to her they can't do a replacement because all similar notebooks have been recalled. I'm waiting for a call back from the boss of the person I spoke to. Has anyone else has a similar problem on their return?

CMC79, if you receive your laptop, try this. Move your optical drive to the open 2nd hard drive bay that's on the Port 1. That would avoid the problem. I haven't been thinking of that before when recommending my friend should send it back.
