Sandy Bridge Gaming Laptop??

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for a new gaming laptop with following specifications:

* Sandy Bridge Core i5 or i7 processor
* A high-end mobile graphics card, like a GeForce 480M or Radeon 6970M
* An SSD, or at least a cheap and small hard drive that I can toss and replace with an SSD
* High resolution screen, like 1920x1080
* Under $1,500
* And finally, a laptop chassis that doesn't look like a toy. No silly lights or weird colors, please.

Does anyone know if such a laptop is available now? I was hoping that Lenovo would have released their new T520 line with similar specifications to what I mentioned above by now, but there is no word on when it's coming out.

Other than boutique laptop shops, I'm not familiar with any OEM manufacturer (Dell, HP, etc) that is building a laptop that you are looking for. I'm not sure if Alienware makes such a laptop yet.

A quick search on their fastest Alienware laptop, has a 5870 for a GPU.

Alienware offered the M17x R (or something similar) for a limited time BEFORE intel announced the 6 series chipset problem, after that dell pulled it, not sure what the highest graphics card that was offered with it, but if OP wants to wait it should be back soon as intel has said laptop SB parts will continue to ship.

The Alienware laptops have a funky looking design... too silly looking for my taste.

Both on backorder until March.

OP, if you really want a Sandy Bridge laptop, you're going to have to wait.

I thought that they ended the recall, no? Besides, most laptop motherboards only have two SATA ports, so that chipset defect should be a non-issue.

That and considering we barely just got Sandy Bridge not too long ago, not many manufacturers are building Sandy Bridge laptops and desktops in large quantities (yet). Give it a few more months and there will be a better selection for such a laptop.

Not so much.

Most large "gaming" laptops have a HDD, secondary HDD bay, ESATA port, an optical/extra SATA bay, and possibly a mini pcie wired for SATA.

it's why i picked up an ASUS G73JH for 900 refurbished the other day because SB gaming laptops will take awhile and arent really going to be sub 1k for a long while.
