Was scanning the microcenter site for a combo deal for my wife as her system is slow and I'm tired of getting grief from her. I was just gonna get a cheap AMD combo for her but needed something that used DDR3 memory as I picked up an xtra 4gbs for my system that I don't really need anyways. I figured when newegg had it for $50 shipped it was worth it as it was an exact match for my current memory!

I wound up buying the following combo!

Gigabyte GA-H67M-D2 LGA 1155 H67 mATX Intel MB....$94.99
SKU: 179754

Intel Core i5 2400 LGA 1155 Boxed Processor....$119.96 (Open Box)
SKU: 200170

With CA tax it winds up costing me $233

I figured for the price it's a pretty good deal for me. I didn't plan on overclocking her system anyways as it's all about power saving for her anyways. She'll be going from a single core celeron so I figure it'll be huge upgrade for her!

Not much into open box items but I figure someboday bought it when the 2500K was out of stock and decided to return it when it was back in stock.

If you already bought it what kind of feedback do you want from us?

Sorry it was just wanna those venting type postings!

Maybe anybody have any experience with this MB or would it be better to pony up for a better one? Plan on just using the onboard video for her anyways.

This sounds like a great upgrade for her. You should also use an SSD and a fresh install of Windows 7. Things will scream along so fast she won't know what to do. :p

It almost sound like an overkill upgrade... your wife won't be able to tell the different between an athlon II x2 and a sandy bridge, unless she game hard core.

This!

For the wife recently I put a 40 gig Intel in the her asus i5 Laptop and she could not believe it. Photoshop opens in less than two seconds and windows loads crazy fast.

got lots of points ^^

I hope you have a second data drive because a 40Gb drive with photoshop and W7 wont fit much else.

All the raw stuff gets imported on a workstation and lives on network. She does mostly productivity and edits a picture at a time. Works for her.

On a H67 board, no point in wasting the cash on a -K part. And the video is slower on -K parts, are they not?

If you already have a server at home, why not just iSCSI boot instead of spending money on SSDs or HDDs?

Most likely I'll just use the WD 640gb black I got laying around collecting dust anyways....I'm sure it'll be blazing fast in her standards!

I did consider a cheap AMD combo from microcenter but in the end decided to pony up the xtra $100 bucks and go for the Sandy Bridge instead. Figure she'll be set to go for 3-4yrs or longer....Unless system failure of course!

My rig is staying as is. Intel took all the fun out of overclocking with Sandy Bridge! Even a cave man could do it....Not much fun upping the multiplier at all.
