Usually when tax gets involved, it's borderline at best. In NY, for example: $179.99 + $14.85 (8.25% NY sales tax) = $194.84. And let's say I get the Gigabyte P67A-UD4. $186.99 + $15.43 = $202.42. Total: $397.26.

Newegg will likely have the processor for $215 for a day or so. NE price: $215 + $187 (assuming the board is the same price, it's usually similar) = $402. So I saved 5 bucks.

So is it worth the drive? Eh. It's worth it if you want it now, which to impatient techies is usually, well, a large benefit. :)

That's why you order other parts online first like the mobo or ram which are available to order like the p67 mobos which you can find around 100 bucks shipped.

Say for instance you buy this :

http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php...55-Intel-P67-DDR3-SATA3-A-GbE-ATX-Motherboard

116 dollars shipped

and then the 2500k from MC, you will likely save quite some money, especially since I guarantee you that NewEgg will likely price gouge the living snot out of this processor in the first week or so.

Right, but then you don't get it now. :)

Plus if a board is $116 at SB or NE, it will be around $116 at MC.

MC doesn't offer that board from what I know of, I went today and they only had the 3 boards in the 150+ range.

Plus, you have to account for sales tax. The processor at basically 200 is a steal; I guarantee you that this thing will sell like a hotcake and NewEgg will just ramp up the price tremendously in the first 2-3 days like the i7 920 when they ran out quickly in the first week or so in most areas.

I mean, just look at what happened to the Radeon 5850. Far surpassed expectations in sales and all of a sudden there wasn't enough supply to go around and the sites that price gouged the crap out of everyone that wanted to buy one.

It makes it worth it to go to Microcenter and pay the tax premium on the processor, especially since you are getting it below retail price. There is not gonna be a shortage of motherboards at MC, and thus its not worth it to go and pay the tax on it (especially when those mobos are listed at close to retail prices).

Really? Because they usually have tons of boards. Not that I'm really arguing that buying the mobo at NE will save you cash, it will. My point is you just won't save that much if you buy two comparable products. Obviously if you get the lowest price board online, and MC doesn't sell that board, you'll save more. That particular board won't do it for me, as it doesn't have two PCI-E slots. Nonetheless, that's not a concern for everyone.

As to price gouge, that's why you move the first day. I'm not as convinced of a huge price gouge, but that's not relevant really. Anyway, ultimately I have to ask myself if I want to be bothered going out there on a Sunday and paying $194, or having it in hand Tuesday without the hour drive for between $5 and $15 more. However, if I am going on Sunday, I'm getting the board. :)

I guess I could order from Superbiiz right now, but they're a pain in the ass with shipping and won't ship anywhere but my house, and I'm rarely home, so I have to go out and get the package....argggh.

Well for really stingy people like me that extra money is worth it.

And no way NewEgg sells the 2500k for 215 the first day. Too many stores have the retail price ramped way up.

Newegg always price gouge new CPU releases....that MSI mobo from Superbiiz has no heatsinks whatsoever, I'd stay away.

Yeah frankly I don't know why MicroCenter is doing such a big discount. I guess as mentioned before, they want to gamble that if they can get you there, you'll buy a bunch of stuff from them at better margins. If they dont create excitement, everyone will get their junk thru Newegg.

Is there a microcenter in Seattle? this might be worth the drive if they have cheap 2011 prices when it launches :)

If you have any left over aftermarket coolers you should be fine. Anyone worth their salt that is overclocking always has those extra parts laying around anyways. Well.... usually anyways.

I'm expecting around 229.99 for the 2500K on newegg, 339.99 for the 2600K

I'm almost...no, not almost...I AM jealous of all you near a MicroCenter. I have one 4.5 HOURS north of me or 6.25 HOURS south of me. Same with Fry's. I have a former Tiger Direct now CompUSA in my town and that is all. I'll be doing the newegg thing.

Yeah as long as your sales tax isn't above 8% you're still saving on the Sandy Bridge 2500k.

Seriously, I can't remember a better CPU priced at $180.00 on launch date. Anyone else? This is an amazing deal.

Core i7 2600k $279.99 X 6% = 296.78 + 40 dollars Gas roundtrip + 12 dollars tolls = 348.78

Yeah i'll order from Newegg. Philly is 2 hours away

Yeah that's the only issue, if you don't have a Microcenter near you it sucks. But if you do.... :)

I think they will have exact same behavior.
Found this :

I dont want to go off topic but I have a question. With OC experience from a LONG time ago, Can someone recommend me a MOBO in the 150-160 range, 4gb of ram and the correct PSU if I went with the i7 2600k so I could get results like this? I just got a Sapphire 5870 which was somewhat overkill for my c2d 6400. Seeing the potential of SC2 on a 23inch in @ full settings I am deciding to upgrade.
Thanks ahead.

For a Motherboard get a good P67 board, gigabyte is my go to company for boards right now. The P67 is for discret graphics and overclocking.

Ram get some good 1600 or faster ram. I don't go by name but by specs. Most of them use the same chips now anyways. I got my 4 gig of DDR3 1600 for less than $40 AR at newegg

Power supply get a namebrand 80%+ one. As long as its 500watt or more and meets the 80%+ spec you should be ok. I got mine for less than $50 AR on newegg

Not sure where you are seeing $116 shipped; I see $118 + shipping , but Superbiiz has a buttload of P67 mobo's at decent prices..

For single gpu, a m/b with one pci-16 slot and a 600 watt psu works.
For dual gpu, without reading working reviews, the next model up for gigabyte would be the ud4p p67. I have the p55 version and am pleased. For possible dual gpu, consider a 650-750 psu.

I can't believe they sell many AMD cpu's at Microcenter. An observation I've held since I discovered there Intel brick and mortar discounts.

Pair the AMD CPUs with their mobo combo discounts and it evens out. The X4 640 gets a lot of love with budget builders.

I've been holding out for Sandy to build a new compy. Hope these prices are true.
