Westmere is releasing 10 core versions, so I think it is safe to say SB will have at least 8 in the server market.

mmmm.... 1.6ghz leans me on saying i think its a beckton.

It could be sandy.. but the seller is a true IDIOT or in deep financial trouble to keep the cpu.

Because im fairly sure if its Sandy, intel security will be all over the cpu, and the microcode on it will trace where it was suposed to be at.

In short... someone's gonna get fired and possibly suffer legal actions for allowing that idiot to ebay that cpu.

1.6GHz leans on me saying it's an ES. Whatever it is.

Given how modular SNB's design is, I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were 8- or 10-core ES's somewhere. In fact, I would be surprised if there weren't.

But I very much agree with you that if that is the real deal, someone is going to be in very serious trouble soonish.

The fact that it says 8 core ES, kind of gives it away...

Yeah. My point was that there is absolutely nothing you can deduce from the stock clocks of an ES processor. (other than that at least one processor was capable of running at that clock.)

ES processors are not usually aggressively binned to what they can run, like retail chips. They are set to some clock that is "at least good enough to boot up windows", and that's it. Because there is no good reason to do any better.

This means that:

Is a completely nonsensical statement. How you you know it won't ship at 3GHz stock? This "leak" gives you no information to the contrary.

Hm. These cores and ram are getting difficult to put to use for something that I would notice I need them for. I have 4x3.5ghz Phenom2 cores and 8GB of RAM, and only after starting up Crysis Wars load a save, minimize, UT3 join a server, minimize, Portal2 load a game, minimize, Mass Effect load save, minimize, Quake Wars:ET join a server, can't minimize this, and load up Dirt2 in the background, and I'm still only sitting at 7GB used. At least I finally managed to make my CPU be maxed out.

Mark my words, few years from now many of us will just have dual or quad core cellphones with 4GB of RAM and we'll just plug them in to a docking station as a termination point for our USB mouse and keyboard and display output. Little need for a workstation as long as you don't need to game. It's why I'm bearish on Intel long term.

Unless it is a very early ES it isn't going to be stupidly low clocked (and then god knows what other features maybe missing? Turbo, C1E etc.). Although it could be an ULV sample.

He means that it is a fake. You could tell what CPU it is by counting the pads if you really want. SB-E should have ~2011, Beckton would have ~1567.

The is really nothing to prove that it really is an 8 core chip anyway... you just have to take the sellers word.

WOW... im being preached to, in regards to an ES cpu.

:D

a first on this forum....

My comment in regards to beckton was, its like beckton.
Which was a low clocked cpu for the amount of cores it had.

about the ES... lets say i know ES's... im sure the rest of the forum can vouch for me.

So is the subjects topic title true or misleading? I'm asking so that we can decide if the OP title needs to be changed for accurate description.
