Yeah, both are necessary, IMO, and even not enough. Personally, I use Sandra to benchmark memory bandwidth of my systems and hard drives speed. I use 3D Mark to measure 3D perfromance. And ZD Winbench (the best and the most reliable benchmark, IMO) to benchmark the CPU.
 
Yes, Prime95 torture test is really the ultimate test of stability in terms of stressing the CPU and Memory. Sandra sucks at hard drive benching, this is known fact, and 3DMark is a test for your video card and does stress the cpu and memory anywhere near the level that P95 does.

I disagree, I've seen computers that run Prime95 fine but crash with CPUBurn within minutes.
