sandra 2005 hangs my pc

per title, i recently tried to run sandra to benchmark a new usb drive a bought, and low and behold, it hangs my pc, hard (sandra does, not the usb drive)! the only way out is a hard reboot. surprisingly, googling yields no helpful debug information. anybody here got any ideas ... ?
