Using a 40 Gb IBM 60GXP unit (confirmed running at UDMA5 by WinXP) on a VIA 686B controller, I get 18000 in the filesystem test. 24000 is achievable by an ATA100 30 Gb device SiSoft claim. Any ideas as to why the difference? NTFS being slower than FAT32? Surely no one uses FAT32 for a RAID setup, and yet the RAID results are in keeping with what one would expect.
