Sandra 2002 NTFS disk benching

Using a 40 Gb IBM 60GXP unit (confirmed running at UDMA5 by WinXP) on a VIA 686B controller, I get 18000 in the filesystem test. 24000 is achievable by an ATA100 30 Gb device SiSoft claim. Any ideas as to why the difference? NTFS being slower than FAT32? Surely no one uses FAT32 for a RAID setup, and yet the RAID results are in keeping with what one would expect.

Surely whatever Sandra is measuring, the example results will correspond to the tested benchmark?

I just did my Ibm 60GXP 60gb drive, got a 19,500 or so around there. I have the Promise ata100 card on there too.

Many, many people have reported strange results using Sandra disk bench over the last couple months. There's just something wrong with the benchmark or their examples. Try using HDTach or Iometer instead.

Try testing without DirectX installed
and without 4in1 drivers

I get 26008 with Maxtor ata133 on KT266A mobo

I think there is some weird issue with DirectX and Sandra
Try using HD Tach 2.61

average with Maxtor ATA133 drive is 39600 with HDTach
and with IBM 75 GXP average is 35500

I ran it and got a 25534 with my 40gb WD on an ECS sis735 mobo...

Do you have partitions on the drive, or have the drive as a slave???

Thanks to fellow Aters for giving me link...Looks great...

You need to check advance size check, there is no single IDE drive that can average 39MB/sec. BTW I have the same drive and I get.

Max. 42MB/sec

Min. 21MB/sec

Avg. 34MB/sec

Yeah I agree my $0gig ATA100 7200rpm WD with advanced size unchecked gets:

Max: 41mb/s
Min: 37mb/s
Avg: 39mb/s

with advanced size checked:

Max: 41mb/s
Min: 27mb/s
Avg: 36mb/s
