Sandisk Titanium 512MB USB Staples $29.95 YMMV No Rebate

Ripped from fatwallet:

At Staples, the Sandisk Titanium is a substitute for the SanDisk Cruzer Micro 512MB USB 2.0 portable storage drive on sale this week for $29.95 (after $10 rebate).

However, this is ONLY if the 512MB Micro is out of stock.
Ask them to scan the shelf tag to see what the sub is, they'll be astounded, and hand you the Titanium 512MB out the door for $29.95 plus tax.
It's normally $79.95. Pretty nice drive.

Edit: You're right, it's not a zipdrive. It's a flash-thumb-whatever-they're-calling-them-these-days drive

I got one today, the manager wasnt too happy 🙂

Man, I was at Staples yesterday looking for the advertised drive - they were out so I just left without talking to anyone. I even thought about asking for the substitution, but no one was around so I didn't bother.

I think I'll head out early and check again 😀

deal verified. got in on this at the Kent, WA store. The night manager (trainee) was on the phone verifying this for half an hour though, cause he didnt believe his eyes (and wanted to keep his job) 😛

Thanks OP!

no go at the fremont, ca store on thursday night. they just restocked right before i got there, =P. too bad i didn't know about this earlier, my mom went earlier in the week and they were out.

Hey, is there any way that someone can get this for me before tonight? I tried to do this at my local Staples and they hardballed me.

Thanks,
Phi

I tried two stores while out running errands in two parts of the Bay Area. Vacaville, CA - They didn't even have the sale price up they had it at $59 and they were OOS. They told me that had not gotten their copies of the add and it seemed like he didn't know what I was talking about so I just gave up and when to another one.

I ended up in Pleasant Hill, CA and they were OOS, but they did not want to offer a subsititute for this drive. They told me that another store (in the vacinity) had them in stock, ot I could order this on the web and they would offer me the same price. I asked about subsititutes and the manager denied me.

Oh well, I have to go into San Francisco in a couple of hours, I'll try there.

Argh, just finding out about this @ 11PM on Sat night, I presume this deal is dead as of store closing this evening? (dead on Sunday?)

Got one fomr Newegg a while back for $55 shipped.

Best. Flash. Drive. Ever. Made.

Seriously, this thing was not meant for mortals. CNET ran over it with a car with no consequences, for God's sake. It really is the high water mark.

I read a review stating that under a "titanium" veneer it was all flimsy plastic like every other usb flash drive. I think the micro is the better drive.

Run over a micro with a car and get back to us on that one~ 😉

Actually the micro is really solid, it has a steel casing inside the rubbery plastic covering, I have no doubt that due its size and construction that it would also survive being run over by a car. In fact, when I was deciding between that two I read a review that stated that the Titanium isn't as strong as they'd like you to believe. It is just regular steel coated with a "paint" of Titanium and being bigger and rounder than the micro the underlying steel is more likely to bend than the underlying metal on the micro. Compare both side by side and you'll see.

I think it depends on what car you use. If you use little 2 door cars that runs over it really fast, the titanium may survive. If you use a Hummer that runs slowly over it, it will break.

I have one of these drives and it is the best USB flash drive I have ever gotten. I owned a few different flash drives in the past, and either the keychain part has broken off or the thing just stopped working. I have had this since I got it at Newegg for about $60 about 5 months ago. It is the best drive I have ever used. Now, I don't bash the thing around, but it feels pretty indestructable to me.

Well, the big thing the Titanium has over the Micro is the transfer speed. I have used both and the Titanium is WAY faster. It's a bit bigger, and I would definitely believe if the Micro is just as strong, but the Titanium's speed just can't be ignored.

I've never done this before. What exactly do I say to the cashier when I take them the titanium model? "You were out of the micro and I want this one for the same price." ???

Typically, you just ask them if they are substituting similar items for the out of stock sale item. It's usually YMMV (your mileage may vary), but usually you'll find the rare deal such as this one.

Yeah the Micro is really slow, but just as strong and easier to fit in your pocket (with cell phone, keys, etc). However the slow speed can get annoying at times, I wish they just made the micro faster.
