Sandforce SSD drives available at OWC..

Who knows, OWC isn't always the best when it comes to hard specs..

From what I've read about the Sandforce controller it essentially trims itself.. wear leveling and garbage collection are built into the hardware controller. Also uses some form of data compression to reduce overall number of writes the to drive. Anand has a write up about it, I think it's the Vertex 2 article.

Correct me if I'm wrong..

No, I think you are correct, Derek. I thought I read on Anand's article that SandForce does in effect "TRIM" itself even better than regular TRIM.

Too bad the prices on them are still about $4.00/GB 🙁 I think even the Intel series are cheaper than that.

I think prices will stay firm on all makes and models until Intel drops prices..

Hoping they do soon as I'm looking for an SSD for a new build but I'm not holding my breath.

Funny, I just talked to a Mac store guy about SSDs and he claimed that the performance is really about the same, albeit maybe they load faster but after loading everything runs off the ram and you won't notice a difference.. of course he was referring to the Samsung SSD's that apple uses.. Half the time I think apple store employees (same could be said for BB) just talk out of their ass.

No offense to any mac store guys in here 😉

i am not touching it until the experts can analyze it and find any issues there might be hiding... every SSD thus far had issues that needed to be found and rarely were they correctable with just a firmware upgrade

I think if the iPAD is a flop, SSD prices will be nice later this year

if the iPAD takes off strong, SSD prices will reflect it

Thoughts on NAND price fixing? (similar to DRAM price fixing in the past)

Who knows what quality or speed of NAND flash is used in the iPad. It may not be quite the same stuff that's in the desirable SSDs.
