Oh good. The war on drugs.

You misunderstand me. I'm all for the dopers getting their use on, I think all but the harshest shit should be legalized. But that doesn't change the fact that until that happens, it's illegal. If you want to be involved with illegal things, prepare to face the consequences, i.e. don't go driving around with an ounce and then be shocked when you blow the stop sign and the cop pulls you over, that you go from a Have a nice day pig wave with your moving violation ticket, to Aww man, dat ain't mine! click click watch your head ride to the station.

Police in low crime areas can be dicks, but they're generally less dick'ish. Police in high crime areas generally aren't f*cking around.

You got nuthin'.
I don't have time to spoon feed you. If you're content with your understanding of the problem as being essentially a racism issue...then so be it. If your curious, try taking a little initiative and dig deeper than what your seeing superficially.

OK? Do you really expect the police in a high crime area when they pull someone over and smell weed to not bust the person for weed? Do you expect the police in a high crime area when they come up on some guys just milling around and question them, and they smell weed, to not frisk them? You understand that weed is illegal to have, right? Do you think Blacks somehow missed out on that info, and just don't know that what they're carrying/using/selling is illegal and thus why they're busted so much more often? Do you think cops in a high crime area will be more or less forgiving with people breaking the law?

Reality is your friend, don't be afraid. (or, you know, don't be involved with illegal shit and surprise surprise, your chance of going to jail really decreases...who knew?!)

"High crime area" as defined by the number of drug arrests has all the properties of a self fulfilling prophesy. The more people busted the more patrols are put out in that area to bust more people. Wash, rinse & repeat. See how that works?

I just now watched/listened to the whole thing.

One thing that keeps amazing me is the difference between these two and the republican hopefuls. Just... damn.

Also, go Bernie. Hillary is still coming across fake and untrustworthy as hell, while Sanders is well spoken and answers the fookin question.

I can't decide whether to laugh or cry (in tears) at your depth of indoctrinated stupidity. Have you ever even been to a high crime area? To an economically depressed area? Do you even know WTF I'm talking about? Better question, do you even know WTF you're talking about?

I like Bernie's straight forward-ness, a shame he's a socialist and wants to jack our taxes up 10% to everyone.

Even by the standards we hold politicians to, that's just an incredibly stupid statement and position.

There are plenty of poor white people who know just as well as anyone "what it's like to be poor".

Sanders just torpedoed any remote chance he had of winning anything.

The thread title is an out-of-context quote.

If he gets the delegates that he needs, that is. Seems that, at the current rate, he's not gonna get the nomination.

Shame that. If Bernie made it to November I'd give him an 80% chance at my vote. He seems like a good man with integrity, even if his rhetoric is disagreeable. And I wished he was 20 years younger, with charisma.

The GOP is willing to anger me that much.

Well I think I know where you are coming from and agree completely, as far as you took it anyway. Blacks are in fact disproportionally affected by poverty related issues more than whites are, especially ghettoized blacks, for historical and cultural reasons. Black people, unfortunately, have been subjected to more intensive deprecation in the US than any except maybe Native Americans. Additionally, no efforts that are effective have been applied by the majority whites because they have this delusion they have it better because they have more intrinsic worth. The issue will stay unresolved and simply be treated superficially, because whites don't want to know they have passed their self hate over to blacks and intensified the background levels in blacks that is endemic to all races. They won't open the can of worms that would reveal their own self hate.

High crime area? Yes, I've been to Wall St. I've also been to East St Louis & some other really poor places like the San Luis valley. I'm sure that if they could increase enforcement of drug laws there that they could define it as high crime, too.

This is much more about how blacks perceive themselves and their intrinsic worth than about some whites who happen to think they somehow have more intrinsic worth. Self hate is a human condition that we all must deal with and overcome, regardless of race.

Good job taking picking couple of words out of context. Full quote: "When you're white you don't know what's it like to be living in a ghetto, you don't know what it's like to be poor, you don't know what it's like to be hassled when you walk down the street or you get dragged out of a car, and I believe that as a nation in the 2016 we must be firm in making it clear we will end institutional racism and will reform a broken criminal justice system."

Are there a lot of poor white people? Sure. Are there a lot of poor white people living in the ghetto being constantly harassed by police? Not really. Most of the people on this forum are insulated from that lifestyle so it is all too easy to forget that not everyone has it easy.
And it sounds like he was describing a sentiment that someone else told him about.
I'm pretty sure we know what he was trying to convey.
He gestured to himself as well; I wonder if a missing word was "well-off" to go along with "white."

Don't worry, I'll say something to piss you off soon enough. ;)

I'm happy to say I caucused for Bernie last week, and even happier to say he trounced Hillary here in MN. I hope he can make up the delegate deficit and take the nomination, I'd definitely vote for him in November.
.....huh. Well then.

Do you understand that "high crime area" doesn't mean only drug usage? You keep making these comments like they are and either you are very lost or you're conflating two different things as one.

I think he's talking about all those drive by shootings that happen on Wall St.

Nah, I'd just vote for Kasich or someone else, Bernie doesn't look very well. I'd give him 2 years max

You're making very simple statements about an incredibly complex problem. It's not as easy as you make it out to be.
