Sand in SD880 IS

So I left my SD880 IS in a duffel bag which i took to a beach (without a case of course). Long story short, the next time i turned it on the lens focus mechanism gave a nice powder grinding noise which I can only assume is sad which got inside the mechanism. This camera is out of warranty (and i'm pretty sure Canon doesn't cover sand anyway). Also, I don't want to spend a couple of hundred dollars getting it "cleaned". Are there any suggestions/manuals available showing how I could clean the dust out?

I assume that if I open the case and use a duster in the proper location, it may work. But some diagrams would be nice. Also, if there's someone I can take it to who can do the work more reliably for say ~$50, I would be receptive to it.
