Anyone remember back in the old days (1988-1994). Somewhere in that range. There used to be a frozen burrito you could buy at grocery stores by the name of "Sancho" or something similar to that. They has shredded chicken in them. In highschool for lunch we'd walk to the local quick stop where we could buy them. I'm sure they weren't very healthy but I remember them being pretty tasty. I haven't seen them on the store shelves in a long time but admittedly I haven't looked for them very often.

In the 20 years or so since high school I've eaten a total of probably 5 or 6 frozen burritos. None of them tasted like the Sancho brand. And although I'd prefer a fresh burrito there are times when I'm so busy that I'd like to have something to throw in the microwave.

Just wondered if any of you remember those and if indeed they still make them? The only kind I ever see are the El Monterey brand and they suck. I don'y like them at all.

Can anyone recommend a decent tasting frozen burrito?

Patio's are the WORST. Jose Ole, El Monterrey, and several other available brands are ALL vastly better.

How is this thread "off topic" for Off Topic. Do we have a burrito forum that I am missing?

I had a Patio chicken burrito once, and it was one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen. Came out of the microwave as a soggy pile of gray mush.

I ate some of those El Monterey cruncheros for lunch earlier and they were pretty good.

Sigh..........

So it appears that Sanchos no longer exist or that there is not a direct replacement for them.

I guess I forgot to mention that Sanchos were not sold individually wrapped like most of them are today. They came in a cardboard box and were sperately wrapped in celephane.

I have looked for these Sanchos for some time too. They were delicious! Nothing like a regular frozen burrito. They were longer and thinner. Flour tortilla definitely, but I don't think they said "burrito" on the box. We just called em Sanchos. Two in a box and individually wrapped in celophane. They were something Mom would keep in the house for us to eat after school and during the summer when we were home.

Another thing that we had was a Whiz Grid by Mirro Matic. I still have a working one, but would like to get my hands on another one in good condition. My grease tray broke some time ago. I just set it in a cookie sheet now.

OK dude. I don't know if you are even still active on this forum, but I found out that they were manufactured in Marshall, MN under the name Cafe Mexico. Guess who else is in Marshall, MN? Schwanns. They have apparently bought the old company (Multi-National Food Service), so if we are going to find these things, they will be made under the Schwann name now.
