Yup, just like the title says. I was scrambling to find a place to get a flu shot for my kid and me. When he gets the flu he heats up to like 104 and above. Sometimes, he gets so hot, he goes into seizures. So the flu shot will help him. Unfortunately, our doctor's all out of the flu vaccines. Called couple of other places and they were out too. SO, I called the Flu-shot hotline for our county and guess what. The recorded message basically says (paraphrased): our county is giving priority to Hispanics and elders before anyone else. (I've listed the hotline so you can call and hear the message for yourself).

But WTF is that all about. Now I have to worry about my kid getting sick because hispanics have a priority over us? Its fine to argue that everyone should be considered equal but NO ONE should be given priority when it comes to something like this. Flu shots are in short supply this year, but we have to wait and let them take all the flu shots first then we'll get what's left, if any? WTF!!! I'm not against someone being hispanic, but its just wrong to give priority to one group like that. I'd be against it if they decided to give preferences to any other group, be it blacks, whites, Asians or whatever. (Disclaimer: Not racially motivated, just County official with head up @ss doing stupid things motivated!)

For anyone who wants to hear the message for themself:

Sounds fair to me that the illegal aliens get flu shots before you. Afterall you pay taxes, so why should you get them?

you noob, you posted the wrong phone number.

What r u talking about. Call it.

I did and it is not a recording...

I'll have to call again then and complain. I called this morning around 7:30am. Recording at the time. Possibly cause no one was in the office yet.

Edit: Did you ask who they were giving priority to? I'm sure if you asked to go in for a flu shot, they'd turn you down.

I just called again. There was the Out going voicemail again. Still saying the same thing as before.

Edit: Voicemail changed. It appears, they're now only giving flu shots to elders or "high risk groups".

Just wondering, are hispanic people more susceptible to influenza than the general population?

Yeah I hate this farking stuff. I was doing really well in my cultural diversity (yeah stupid gened) class, then wrote a big paper on how this gross mislabelling of "equal opportunity" is total BS now and that it should be based on how good you are at something and that sort of thing.

I got flamed and a C- for it. Oh and now the class thinks I'm a bigot.

Ah, affirmative action has finally implemented itself into the San Joaquin County Medical system.

I can't think of the exact disease, but there's one that seems to affect only black people (like 98% of the affected). So, maybe the flu this year is a lot more dangerous to Hispanics. If not, ya.. it's completely racist. But, some diseases are much more dangerous to different ethnicities.

I never bother with the flu vaccine myself. Every time I have gotten it, I got sick for a few days. Some years when I don't get the vaccine, I don't get the flu. When I do get the flu without the vaccine, I'm still only sick for a few days - and it usually isn't that bad.

I wrote a similar paper during my sophomore year. It made my teacher (who is hispanic) very angry. She failed me and called me racist. But this was in high school so it wasn't a big deal.
