SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A judge on Thursday struck a measure from the city's November ballot that called for a ban on most circumcisions of male children, saying the proposed law violates the U.S. Constitution's guarantee of religious freedom and a California law that makes regulating medical procedures a function of the state, not cities.

Well it COULD happen. As in the quote you posted, the judge said that regulating medical procedures is a function of the state, not cities. Saying that it would violate religious freedom is bullshit imo, but I'm glad the whole situation at least got people thinking about it, and I guarantee some future parents will decide not to circumsize because of it

Agreed. I view circumcision as largely unnecessary and my wife and I opted to not have the procedure done on our son. Still, it is up to the parents to decide...not a bunch of political activists or government.
