San Francisco to Auckland in February. 13 hour flight sounds awful.

Those of you who take long flights. How do you pass the time. I was thinking of getting some noise cancelling headphones. A laptop battery will die after 2 hours. Maybe an mp3 book. Please advise..

If your laptop battery only lasts 2 hours, you need a new battery.

you might check, some larger aircraft have seats with access to power outlets

Get a few decent games and play that but make sure to watch at least a hour of porn to get you the extra armrest. ;)

Not sure which airline. Cruise line is setting it up. Going to New Zealand and then over to Austraila. I did not realize that some airlines have power outlets for the lappy. I will have to check that out. If they do, then the laptop is definitely going along.

I don't know about you, but music doesn't pass the time for me. Audiobooks do, movies do, tv shows do. Music doesn't do it. It's nice to listen to, but I'm still left with my own thoughts to pass the time, which is torture. If you have an iPod that plays video, that'd work. Or borrow a video player from someone. I  my Zen Vision W, and I have a AA charger that gives me unlimited play time.

Sweet, weather should be warming up by then, it's only been getting up to 30c at the moment.

Why such a short trip mate, business?

The Zen Vision or something like it sounds like a great idea. Video and sound with low power consumption. I will have to look into something like that. Can anyone confirm the power outlet for laptops on long flights?

Its a 14 day cruise. 6 stops in New Zealand then over to down under for a 2 day stop in what I hope are exciting cities: Melbourne and Sydney. Can you reccomend something to see or do in either of those towns?

forget the noise cancelling and get IEM(In Ear Monitors) instead. They're basically earplugs with very high grade audiophile earphones inside of them. Much better noise isolation and sound quality than noise cancelling sets.

These block out the most noise, and have are one of the most detailed and clear earphones you can buy.
etymotic er4
more budget friendly one

there's lots of other options out there too ranging from $20 to $500.
A lot of the $20 ones sounds surprisingly good(JVC Marshmallow). So no need to break the bank for one either.

This. Just one good one.

A book is highly portable, has fantastic real life resolution, does not depend on volatile memory, has no active moving parts, will outlast most all battery powered devices, and is THE ORIGINAL instant random access file.

Yeah, those are the most exciting cites. Melbourne has nicer people, but Sydney is more lively.

There's heaps to do in both, grab a tourist guide or somethin.

That is the second person ripping on Auckland. We will be making 7 stops in New Zealand. If Auckland is bad, there are 6 other stops. Whats so bad about Auckland?

Arrange your sleep schedule so that you're due for sleep whatever time the flight is. Pop a couple of sleeping pills and you should be able to miss most of it.
