I don't know why everyone has this stigma agaisndt "potheads." Everyone I know that smokes weed are kind, caring, intellectually curious and informative people, much better than the asshole jock alcoholics who walk around my school drunk, angry and breaking stuff.

We won't have legalized/decriminalized marijuana nation wide for a looooooong time because it makes money. In areas like my town, you get a $200 fine for a GRAM and $200 for a single piece of paraphenalia. They make back their investments in enforcing these laws big time..

Hello, Hello. My names Terry and I'm a law abider
There's nothing I like more than getting fired up on beer
And when the weekends here I to exercise my right to get paralytic and fight
Good bloke fairly
But I get well leery when geezers look at me funny
Bounce 'em round like bunnies
I'm likely to cause mischief
Good clean grief you must believe and I ain't no thief.
Law abiding and all, all legal.
And who cares about my liver when it feels good
Wwhat you need is some real manhood.
Rasher Rasher Barney and Kasha putting peoples backs up.
Public disorder, I'll give you public disorder.
I down eight pints and run all over the place
Spit in the face of an officer
See if that bothers you cause I never broke a law in my life
Someday I'm gonna settle down with a wife
Come on lads lets have another fight

Eh hello. My names Tim and I'm a criminal,
In the eyes of society I need to be in jail
For the choice of herbs I inhale.
This ain't no wholesale operation
Just a few eighths and some Playstations my's vocation
I pose a threat to the nation
And down the station the police hold no patience
Let's talk space and time
I like to get deep sometimes and think about Einstein
And Carl Jung And old Kung Fu movies I like to see
Pass the hydrator please
Yeah I'm floating on thin air.
Going to Amsterdam in the New Year - top gear there
Cause I taker pride in my hobby
Home made bongs using my engineering degree
Dear Leaders, please legalise weed for these reasons.

Like I was saying to him.
I told him: "Top with me and you won't leave."
So I smacked him in the head and downed another Carling
Bada Bada Bing for the lad's night.
Mad fight, his face's a sad sight.
Vodka and Snake Bite.
Going on like a right geez, he's a twat,
Shouldn't have looked at me like that.
Anyway I'm an upstanding citizen
If a war came along I'd be on the front line with em.
Can't stand crime either them hooligans on heroin.
Drugs and criminals those thugs on the penny coloured will be the downfall of society
I've got all the anger pent up inside of me.

You know I don't see why I should be the criminal
How can something with no recorded fatalities be illegal
And how many deaths are there per year from alcohol
I just completed Gran Tourismo on the hardest setting
We pose no threat on my settee
Ooh the pizza's here will someone let him in please
"We didn't order chicken, Not a problem we'll pick it out
I doubt they meant to mess us about
After all we're all adults not louts."
As I was saying, we're friendly peaceful people
We're not the ones out there causing trouble.
We just sit in this hazy bubble with our quarters
Discussing how beautiful Gail Porter is.
MTV, BBC 2, Channel 4 is on until six in the morning.
Then at six in the morning the sun dawns and it's my bedtime.

Causing trouble, your stinking rabble
Boys saying I'm the lad who's spoiling it
You're on drugs it really bugs me when people try and tell me I'm a thug
Just for getting drunk
I like getting drunk
Cause I'm an upstanding citizen
If a war came along I'd be on the front line with em.

Now Terry you're repeating yourself
But that's okay drunk people can't help that.
A chemical reaction inside your brain causes you to forget what you're saying.

What. I know exactly what I'm saying
I'm perfectly sane
You stinking student lameo
Go get a job and stop robbing us of our taxes.

Err, well actually according to research
Government funding for further education pales in insignificance
When compared to how much they spend on repairing
Leery drunk people at the weekend
In casualty wards all over the land.

Why you cheeky little swine come here
I'm gonna batter you. Come here.

Basically, if you want to smoke weed on private property, the police are officially supposed to not give a crap and ignore it.

good for them, now they can concentrate on real crimes

I agree. I have absolutely no desire to ever smoke weed, but every dollar spent locking up weed dealers and users could be much better used to do other things.

ditto

I was raised by parents who didn't force me to believe in anything I didn't want to nor did they fill my head with stupid propaganda. I was told not to do drugs, which I didn't while in high school. There was a time when I believed that Pot was evil but that was back in middle school. I quickly learned that it wasn't so bad. Try thinking for yourself once in a while and don't pass judgment on something you have no experience with.

What will probably happen is that the Feds will pull federal funding from the state and tell them that unless they get their cities under control, they will not be getting the funding back. They'll make the state enforce the rules and use money as the power to get them to do what the Feds want.

Joe

I know this is what the Feds will likely do should things get out of control and/or they don't come to realize the advantages of this, and that pisses me off. The people of the country (or city or state), by an obvious majority, vote to implement something and then the Feds say "Too bad, tough luck, we don't like it so screw you and change it back to the way it was or else."

This is why the drinking age is now 21. It used to be 18. But then the Feds pressured all the states into raising it to 21 or else they'd cut highway funding.

Sad but probably true...and not the way the US was originally construed... but the civil war fvcked that over.

Any state should have the right to write it's own laws without reference to federal policy in the instance where the law in question has little or no impact on other states.

While I agree with you, the implications of that are extreme. For instance, the Constitution says that CONGRESS shall pass no law.... with regard to religion. The Federal govenment has reinterpretted that to mean any/all forms and levels of government. If the Federal government really abided by just what they have clear authority to do, there would be nothing to stop... say Michigan... from declaring itself as an officially Muslim state (unless their own state constitution forbade it).

I am angered by the basic ignoring of the 10th Amendment, but it would drastically change America in many ways, some good, some bad. if we suddenly started doing things correctly.

About a month ago, I had a half hour or so conversation with Allen St. Pierre, the Executive Director of NORML. He was saying that they would like to see a minimum of depenalization. That is, that if they aren't going to out and out legalize MJ, then they would like there to be NO PENALTIES for it. Make the laws have no teeth at all, zilch.

The reason they feel this way is that as long as it is illegal, people will still be stopped and searched and harassed, regardless of how small an amount they have. He said that depenalization is basically what they've now done in Russia... there are things that are so much more important, that the Russians have just made a decision to not care about pot an more. This also appears to be close to what SF has done, but not quite.

What NORML would like to see is strict control, like that surrounding distilled liquor. They would like people to not grow their own, but they'd like to have registered farms grow it and have the plants rated and packages marked in much the same manner as liquor is sold by alcohol content. The main reason for this is that there is much concern that legalization would put pot into the hands of even more minors. Strict control would enable adults to imbibe while drying up the black market and making it harder for kids to get hold of. I seem to remember reading a survey of high school kids that showed that most at that age can get pot MUCH easier than they can get liquor, since liquor is controlled... not impossible to get, but harder to get than just scoring a dime at school.

Joe
