Heading to San Fran on business and pleasure (;)) for a week starting Sat and was hoping for some comments about what I should put on my itinerary. Never been there before and don't mind tourist things.

Thanks.

Sausalito (people-watching there is hysterical!), Union Square area, Alcatraz, and every weird touristy thing you can find. The NEXT time you go it'll all be out of your system and you can hit the cool stuff like the museums. ;)

Japantown in San Fran sucks, majorly. Worse than any Yohan plaza I've been to in SoCal.

I don't know why people go to Chinatown either, but it seems popular with tourists. I go there every week when I'm at home and always wonder why tourists feel the need to go there, unless they want to get some nice Chinese food.

Make sure you get acquainted with MUNI. It may not run on time, but it's a damn site better than paying $7.00/hr to park downtown. :)

Other than whats already been mentioned, the Powell St..Nob Hill cable car is popular as is Lombard St., Golden Gate park/Stow Lake. As for museum style stuff, there's the Academy of Sciences, de Young museum, or Legion of Honor.

Is the Mark Hopkins hotel nice? I work for the company that owns it, and my wife and I might visit SF next year. I've thought about staying there since I can probably pay $70/night. Just curious what people think about it.

I don't care much for the Chinatown in SF, probably caused I lived around there for 15 years, but the one in LAis much better. I'd take a walk through Golden Gate Park and visit the Japanese Tea Garden if I had time to.

Hey, Atom's dissin' my hood (well, just south of my hood)! Depends on what type of stuff you like to do... I personally hate the tourist stuff (it took me over a year to ride the cable car). Fisherman's Wharf is a tourist trap, just say no.

Touristy things: Palace of Fine Arts (probalby not what you're thinking... they filmed part of The Rock there, where Mason meets his daughter), North Beach (Washington Square), Lombard Street, GG Bridge, tea garden in the park, Asian Art Museum, Museum of Modern Art, the painted ladies at Alamo Square.

What type of food do you like and how much do you want to spend?

There's a million things to do, I could also recommend a bunch of clubs/bars if that's what your into.

If you drop some coins on the sidewalk, make sure to bend your knees and squat to pick them up. Do not 'bend over'!

Wine Country, Chinatown, and Alcatraz are what I've been told are the best.

I am soooooooo jealous! My favorite cousin and his family are out there, and I want to go so bad... I'm the only one in my fam who hasn't been. :(

Ever since The Rock came out I've wanted to go to San Fran and ask the tour guide on the boat over to say, "Welcome to The Rock!" in his best Sean Connery accent ;)

Buddy of mine moved out there in June. Said they were gaving a gay pride parade one day when we walked out of his apartment. Complete with a giant penis balloon that fell down and knocked him in the head. Well, I thought it was funny.
