I've been to both and I liked Zoo better because you could walk around at your leisure.
In The Wild Animal Park, you ride little train like a taking a tour, it was pretty decent but I like to
see animals at my leisure.

Either way you're in for a lot of walking up and down hills. :) Actually, I say the zoo. I believe they just got a new panda to replace the two that left, so they may or may not be in the public enclosure. However, there are still a lot of other animals to see. The wild animal park is also well worth seeing but it has less variety of animals. I usually go there only when the butterflies are there or during Dec. when there is more stuff going on. It is also warmer because it is more inland than the zoo.

I am not a hue fan of zoo in general but I must say the San Diego zoo is worth a visit.

Get a map and take the bus tour. After that you should walk all around it. The big outdoor bird cage is the best.
Ofcourse after that you need to head on down to the beach. Coronado beach (or whatever it is called) on Coronado Island is nice.

I grew up in SD and spent plenty of time at both, but I prefer the Wild Animal Park. Don't get me wrong, the SD Zoo is still an awesome zoo but it isn't the same as the Wild Animal Park.

I would go with the San Diego Zoo.

If you want to see sleeping animals and don't mind straining your eyes looking for them, then head over to the Wild Animal Park. Its definetly no African Safari.

Both places, most of the time the animals are just sleeping or scratching themselves. But at least at the zoo, you can leave and head over to Balbo Park and check out the musuems and the giant bontainica garden. Plenty of cute girls there also.
