Fires erupted late last week north of Los Angeles, and some San Diego crews were sent to help fight those blazes. Late Saturday, when the first fire in San Diego erupted, Davis asked the U.S. Forest Service for federal help, including the use of two military C-130 tankers. But the request was denied because of a 1932 law that requires officials to exhaust all civilian possibilities before asking for military assistance.

Heh, the results of some budget cuts no doubt. They can no longer afford to lay it on like they usually do - so they make the civvie agencies work.

The military has offered to help according to my dad who is following this pretty closely (he was about 4 miles from the edge of the fire in Ramona) and the Copters at miramar were actually dumping water on unefected land at MMCAS to prove that they could. The forestry service says that the military is unable to help because they are not "certified" to fight fires. Also they ran off a local bussiness man who had a water tanker because he didn't have the proper permits to use his tanker to transport ware for fighting fires.

Screw the laws... thousands upon thousands of dollars in damage and it's still going... and they're talking about laws ? I'd be pissed if I lived anywhere near there...
