Well for you, flying into SD is really nice, because for almost everybody else living in California, driving to SD is just not worth it. The traffic is just impossible, and it's just not worth going down there, NICE AS SD IS!
(almost 1/10 as nice as fantastically better-in every way Santa Barbara!, which is like a smaller, friendlier, far more scenic, much more sophisticated ( the hollyweird stars and Forbes tycoons live here in Montecito, and NOT in Beverly Hills, NOT in Pacific Palisades, NOT in Malibu, or wherever your pop magazines and tmz tv shows tell you) Hollywood.
NO! 1 day at Sea World is exhausting, and is PLENTY. One FULL day (including their night shows) will make you sleep the
whole next day in your hotel room (best enjoyed with a hot naked loving honey), and you WILL need that time. Float along by the pool, etc., & recover.
San Diego Zoo Safari Park is WAY north of San Diego, inland of Escondido (alas I've been there way too any times [20+??] to be ABLE to appreciate it any more) If you're driving, that's a LONG drive. Nevermind how far it looks on a map, you have to double that for TRAFFIC. For a person from anyplace other than SoCal, you just don't understand TRAFFIC like is there.
It's better than a zoo because the animals are in a sort-of-more natural environment, although they don't throw raw meat to the lions like they do in that excellent place east of Christchurch NZ,
and take in as many wild animal SHOWS there as possible, which are much, VASTLY better than simply walking round.
No matter how long the wait, definitely ride the monorail there, because your guide brings out so much meaning!
Back in San Diego, pay to go aboard the Star of India tall mast ship there in the harbor, and (I challenge you to) IMAGINE YOURSELF AS A CREWMAN ABOARD during it's global travels.
There's a really pleasant area down south around the bay below Star of India with a nice carousel for kids, and many good restaurants.

If you're a booze-hound, then there's a "gasslight" district just immediately east (walking) of the convention center.
IF you have a car, get the hell outta the SD city toward the north. Tourists like an area (formerly pristine, recently overbuilt like hell) called La Jolla. Lots of good restaurants there, and University of California San Diego and its Scripps Institiute of Oceanography are there, with LOTS to see. Scripps has a good, smallish exhibition. Just to the south is Wind 'N Sea (world famous surfing beach) and just to the north is Torrey Pines (world famous Black's Beach surfing beach [a left] and nudist beach comprised 100% full of people from New York.
