Two San Antonio Police officers were taken to University Hospital early Thursday morning after their helicopter crashed shortly after take-off.
Police say close to 2:45 a.m. Thursday, the pilots left Stinson Airfield to provide air support for other officers involved in a car chase.
Moments later, the pilot heard a loud bang, then he radioed dispatch that he was in trouble.
The helicopter crashed in an HEB supermarket parking lot on SW Military Drive.
The helicopter was left in shambles and was towed from the scene.
Both officers in the helicopter were taken to University Hospital, but their injuries are reportedly minor.
Federal agents are now investigating. The preliminary report is the crash was caused by engine failure.
