Was GTA San Andreas one of the best games ever made? The game play, the story, it just sucked me in like no other. I have yet to find a game that can make me as nostalgic as that game. The only thing I found impressive about GTA IV was the graphics, nothing else about it was astonishing, I didn't really care to much for the story. I wish the new GTA would give us a trip down memory lane, good ol' San Andreas.

In the future, please use a more descripting title.

As for your question... meh. San Andreas started the downfall of GTA for me, and it peaked with Vice City. GTA has been more about the locale and theme for me, and SA just didn't do it for me.

GTA3 was the peak of the series for me. Vice City was totally awesome, but I was a little burned out on GTA3 gameplay at that ponit. The following sequels were all good games, and I played each of them a decent amount (I'd guess 25 hours each in San Andreas and GTA4), but they just didn't capture my interest the way GTA3 did. If I had to guess, I'd say I dumped 125 hours into GTA3 and maybe 40 into Vice City, for comparison. :)

I guess it's all about atmosphere. I got the whole organized crime thing in GTA3, VC, and 4. The whole gang mentality turned me off for San Andreas. It had good production values, but overall I just didn't connect. This isn't a slight against SA though. It just wasn't for me.

The last game in the series that i finished was VC. SA got boring and with IV i could not get past the DRM, so i never even played it (but i paid for it).

I loved GTA3... never connected to VC.

LOVED SA... until you reached those flying missions then it was so painful.

I'm in complete agreement with you. I just recently beat SA for the third time and I bet I could play it again right now. This time I played it from Steam and it shows I played for 55 hours. 55 hours! For a third play thru that's phenomenal if you ask me. My oldest brother is a PC gamer and he feels the same way as we do. San Andreas was the best GTA. GTA4 was great but just not the same as San Andreas. Going from the hood, to the countryside, to San Fran and then to the Vegas-like scene really gave you the feeling of how big and varied that game was. Oh, and don't get me started on the jetpack... :)

Vice City and San Andreas are probably my top 2 most played games. Years ago when Vice City came out, I played it basically non stop. I knew absolutely everything someone could know about that game. Where all weapons/armor was, where all 100 hidden packages were hidden.

I tried to play it again recently, but just couldn't get into it. It just wasn't the same. San Andreas though I still play occasionally. I started a new game pretty recently actually.

I have SA (bought it as a jewel case), but I can't get past how bad it looks on my PC.

The textures look completely washed out, like my monitor is blown or something, or the brightness is turned way too high. Everything has a shade of white to it.

I tried everything to make it look better, but finally gave up.
