For those of you who already know, there's the Omnia HD announced Feb that's already out. It's a 3.7" AMOLED Symbian S60 touchscreen smartphone.

Now with this announcement of an Omnia II which really is just like a WinMo version of the Omnia HD (minus the imaging capabilities), this makes me go WOW. Definitely speedier than HTC's TP2 and TD2. We'll have to see how this goes. This is almost a heads up against HTC. Omnia II vs TD2 and Omnia Pro vs TP2.

Of course if you follow mobile phones, don't forget Samsung has already announced a 3.2" AMOLED Android phone.

If you think about it, there's 3 large 3"+ touchscreen phones offering 3 different OSes. It's almost like a "pick your OS" deal. Let's not forget that Samsung is also going to offer non smartphones in a similar form factor (Pixon12 and the Jet).

How many of these new phones will be US phones? Probably 1? Hahaha. 2 if we're lucky.

They comparisons would be nice but will end up being pretty much moot. The TP2 will get verizon's typically treatment of HTC. The diamond was what, about a year after Spirnt. Then we will have to wait and see what ATT wants and how long that will take. This is what sucks about only on 1.5 major GSM providers in the US. We don't get the cool phones. The rest of the world uses GSM but here we are still mainly with CDMA. Hopefully LTE will be changing things.

I'm really looking forward to an Android phone coming to ATT, though it better be in a form factor as sleek or better than the iphone.

With 3G it's a huge problem because phone manufacturers are less willing to make tri (if not quad) band 3G frequencies. They're more willing to make 2G quadband... but really what difference does it make? Rewind a year when a lot of phones were still not 3G ready yet. Or even 2 years. 3 years even. We had plenty of quadband phones

The fundamental problem is we rely on carriers to subsidize our phones and to brand our phones before we start carrying them. Worse, even if it's branded like many other countries, we lack selection. It seems other countries fare a lot better with a huge selection. I suspect the phone carriers spend less time with subsidies and less contracts with phone manufacturers and so have access to a whole array of phones. Of course the problems with NAM 3G are an issue, but considering this has been a trend since the 2G days explains why we get shafted.

Thank goodness for Amazon and Newegg and wherever you can get unlocked phones.
