I can't say that I've ever heard of this site before. Do they have a reliable track record to suggest that this isn't link bait?

So if Gen 1 of flexible OLED screens might be ready 2H 2013, does anyone know the trade-offs of that technology?

I'd expect that some of the improvements made with AMOLED screens might take a hit (color accuracy, brigthness, resolution) for the gain of a much more durable display? And then like any tech, it'll get better over subsequent generations.

Personally I'd be willing to accept some minor compromises for a screen that can take a straight drop.

So anyone have any insights in whether to take this jump forward, we have to take a few steps back or is it a win-win tech?

If there is one thing I've learned from eBay, its that someone will manage to break it :)

But yeah, 'unbreakable' displays will probably be the first useful application of these flexible displays. I wonder how they will feel...

I did hear from some other site that the Note 3 would have a "plastic" display which is supposedly unbreakable or at least much harder to break than current displays.

So, there are rumors mentioning that Samsung is going to have better materials for the phone, then they pair it with a plastic flexible OLED? -- Would be kinda weird.

It's like you don't know how engineering works.

What is wrong with a high quality plastic, extremely tough screen?

Does it not "feel" as good to you? Even though there are massive engineering advantages to it?

"Unbreakable" is good, but what about scratch resistance? I'm sure this is a different material, but past plastic screens in cell phones would scratch if you looked at them funny. I think my Blackberry got scratched taking it out of the box.

That's a good point. They've got to get working on the plastic gorilla glass immediately! :colbert:

Seriously though, plastic screens will make those screen protectors a lot more important... Still, I think I'd prefer that to a glass screen that can shatter.
