Time to update this thread with some hard data, too: Samsung's fiscal Q1 2016 results.

We knew a lot of this because of Samsung's earlier heads-up, but that giant drop in net profits and the big analyst expectations miss... ouch. So much for the apparent signs of improvement. It's not going to be a pretty 2016 for this company.

At first glance, why do the numbers in that link not match up to Samsung's own release?

I see 6.14T won profit on 53.32T won revenue in Q4 2015 vs. 5.29T won profit on 52.73T won revenue in Q4 2014. 6.1T won maps to something like 5B USD.

It is a miss over expectations but it a y/o/y increase. Regardless 2016 again is being warned to be touch (i.e. bad).

--------
Samsung’s operating income was 6.1 trillion won ($5 billion) in the three months ended December, the Suwon, South Korea-based company said in preliminary results released on Friday. That compares with the 6.64 trillion-won average of analysts’ estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

Crap, am I going to have to put myself on ignore?
Just saying that emulating someone that annoyed you enough to get on your ignore list might not be the way to go.

If I wasn't feeling so lazy I'd make one of those "This is [badly drawn stickboy]. [Badly drawn stickboy] does [something mildly irritating]. Don't be like [Badly drawn Stickboy]." pictures.

But then that would make me as annoying as some of the people on my Facebook. :(

It's a question of net income versus operating income -- net is what I was thinking of. You have to dive deeper into the financials to see it. Net income is arguably more important, since it includes every possible expense (debts, loans, one-off payments) and shows how much the company really made.
