Samsung tv internal speaker blown.. how to fix?

I've always been very careful with my TVs to not turn them up too loud and blow a speaker. But I had a guest at the house a few weeks back who turned it up very loud and now my bass speaker in my PN60B650 is rattling. I don't want to use an external speaker setup, I've always been happy with internal speakers, if they aren't blown. Does Samsung have a service that fixes issues like these? The last time I took a TV (a WEGA) to a TV repair shop, they left screws out of the back of the tv..
should I attempt a repair by myself or would a run of mill audio shop be able to fix this for me? When I have a TV with blown speakers, it's so annoying that I'm willing to sell the TV..

yes take it back to bestbuy where you got the extended warranty and they'll probably give you a newer model samsung of similar attributes.

op, at this point, I would go to external. Price of fixing tv probably rivals a sound setup. Assuming it's only the driver that is busted, you could try to replace it. But sourcing the same driver will not be easy.

i can't say with certainty but i would expect this to be the case unless you have a warranty

fix it yourself dude between ebay (spare parts) and no warranty what have you to lose. be sure to power it off and let it sleep overnight before dinking around. inverters (if its CFL) can bite.

Depends on the value of the tv and his budget, if he can risk funble finger destroy tv then fine...speaker is pretty easy to replace in theory, take it out, find replacement part online and solder or crimp back in and ur done.

speaker themselves are not the issue, getting to the speakers and putting it all back together is the bigger issue.

Messing around inside of a plasma TV is not something I would recommend doing unless you know what you are doing. I would call Samsung and see if there are any authorized repair centers in your area and then give one of those repair centers a call and see if you can get a quote. However be aware that there's a reasonable chance that having it repaired, unless it's under warranty, will cost more than an external sound solution which in all honesty would sound better.

^^ bingo ^^ i misread - i take that bad do not work on a plasma - the anti-fire junk and high voltages - not worth it. hit up cowboom and pickup a nice BD/7.2 system for $180 - kill a bunch of bird at once

Good move, any surround system would be a MAJOR improvement over a TV speaker system. What system did you get? Just curious.

Fix it buy putting a nice new sound system so you hear from real speakers,, not cheap TV speakers.. Youll feel the bass and every sound, in surround. Im serious..

Not that expensive,, mute the tv volume its junk...

The only reason I don't want to get an external system is I'm moving out of my house into an apartment in a few months. I don't like to have big speakers when living in places like that because of temptation.

I did find a qualified Samsung repair shop and they're going to get back with me on quotes. I don't know much about plasma but if it's dangerous I'll stay away. I also had contacted a local stereo shop who does very good work but no need to put him in any danger either (with him he could give me a little more durable speakers).

I wonder if the Samsung repair place can fix the slight humming sound the TV exhibits at high brightness levels? Probably asking too much, and I've read it's actually normal on a plasma.

You can do the replacement yourself, it isn't that difficult a job.
Just be careful and do it in a room with lots of light so you can see what you are doing. Use a digital camera to take pictures before unplugging any internal connectors so you can be sure to put things back like they were.

Plasma and LCD are nowhere near as dangerous as working on CRT set.
Before doing what I do now I ran warranty repair center where we had contracts with multiple consumer electronics brands including samsung so I have seen a lot of repairs like this. They are easy to do.

The speaker is samsung part # BN96-09464B

Cost is about $10 to repair centers for the part.

TV speakers are crap...they are like 100 dollars a tonne. Metric tonne.


<=====grew up amongst speakers, many of which are for TV.


PS the 100 dollar figure is an obvious exaggeration to illustrate my point.

Part numbers are in the service manuals. The service manuals you can buy online. I still know people that work in the industry so I just emailed asking about the part.

Thank you for the link. I checked with an audio guy I know to see if he could get me speakers that match those specs, but are higher quality. If he can't find anything, I'll go ahead and order those.
