They still made about $40 billion in profits last year. That's about the same as Apple.

It was closer to 55 billion - but that was for the entire corporation with most of the profits coming from the semi-conductor division, not Smartphones. To compare that to Apple is adding oranges. :)

Are you sure of all this? Surly they are tracking sessions and not page loadings.
It's a bunch of horse shit. It's like counting reloads as page hits. I'm pretty sure web tracking software is more sophisticated than what we had in 1995. Furthermore, the user agent as iOS is just bullshit that gets rehashed over and over again with little proof that it's still an issue. Maybe in 2009 when websites weren't properly equipped to distinguish between mobile browsers, but it's pretty easy to detect which mobile browser you're using. I just

Do you really think in 2013, we're still flying blind and Google and the other OEMs have no meaningful way to measure usage statistics?

I'm pretty sure present-day web tracking analytic software ignores multiple/spam refreshes of the same page. YouTube and other websites offer similar filtering of spammers.

I think you mean 2560 x 1440 on the Galaxy Tab Pro...

As for the iPad mini, you do realize the Retina model has a 2048 x 1536 panel, I hope! That's 324PPI. And while I'd like to see what Samsung's screen looks like, the difference is so slight that you wouldn't notice the differences in pixel density. It ultimately boils down a preference for aspect ratio (the G Tab Pro is better for movies, the iPad is better for the web and social networks) and what Samsung ultimately charges. It can't afford to charge more than $399 if it wants to stand a chance against Apple in the market, I'd say.

Sorry where does it say 2560 x 1440?

Actually Marques Brownlee says 2560 x 1600.

The iPad Mini Retina has 2048-by-1536 resolution at 326 pixels per inch (ppi)

Am curious what they'll price the Note @, it'll likely be a few $ more, but with the stylus functionality, it would be interesting.

Looks like the Tab Pro will be a direct competitor with the iPad models, with the same resolution(s) (or a little better) and the Note Pro versions will obviously have the stylus

Marques has some huge hands o_O

Last I heard Samsung makes up 25% of South Korea's GDP. The GDP for S. Korea in 2013 was 1.13 trillion, and 25% of that is 282 billion give or take.

GDP is not about profits, but is the sum of the value of products, services, government spending, etc, etc of a country for that year.

GDP can also be altered by currency fluctuations.

Best Buy had these on sale for $150-$160 in December, and I'm pretty sure WalMart had a similar deal going, and the Samsung name wins vs. Lenovo or someone else who has a widely available, cheaper but not sub-$100 tablet. Couple all that with tablets taking a lot of the handheld gaming market share for kids (I have no data to back this up, just observation and induction), and parents looking to spend less than $400 for their kid's present, and even on themselves, and you have a recipe for a relatively inexpensive and acceptably performing (better than most people's phones) tablet to take some serious market share. Also, I've got a feeling the higher end tablet market is closer to saturated than the cheap tablet market, except where the tablets can replace laptops (Windows tablets w/ keyboards).

Not that I care about marketshares, but didn't Samsung give away lots of tablets during the holiday season? Verizon, DirectTV subscription on TV ads, and I saw even a washing machine (could have been a fridge, I don't remember) that comes with some Samsung tablet at a Bestbuy.

Seeing the whole new family of tablets Samsung just introduced, it's no surprise that Samsung was clearing the house. Do they count towards "marketshare"?

Interesting, didn't even consider that. I do wonder what the deals they have with TWC etc look like. I'd assume it's similar to a phone subsidy, but how much of a discount are they giving Time Warner vs. retail price (or the price retailers pay, though I'm not sure how much markup is in Samsung tablets)?

Time Warner's promo is for free tablets, but you have to jump through some hoops.

They're giving away Note 8's and Tab 8's

Sprint has a subsidized Tab 7 for $50 & a 2 year commitment, minimum data plan is $5 & taxes and fees for 200MB/month.

Giveaways can add to market share but only a small % in the larger perspective.

Apple also gave away tonnes of tablets as well during that period.

Apple GAVE AWAY tablets?!?! lol. I'm still seeing iPad 2's that cost as much as some of the latest Android models. Please direct to me to where I can get a free iPad from Apple, I don't care how many hoops I have to jump thru.

Dish Network sends me the free iPad 2 with sign up promo every couple months. I laugh and always throw away the flyer. There's no way I'm signing up for satellite or cable tv ever again.

Yah and there are lots of iDevices and iTunes cards given away from 3rd parties as gifts/promotions. Not sure whether they pay the full prices.
