For work, I just picked up a new Macbook Pro 15.4" for home and when I travel. I also needed some new storage since it only supports USB Type C/3 and my other Lacie rugged drives were Firewire 800. I settled on two Samsung T3s to use as a manual Mirror 1 travel solution.
Once of my Lacie drives has USB 3, so I figured I'd do a test and see exactly how quick these drives are. The Macbook Pro has a 1TB SDD itself, but I didn't factor that into my first test. What I did was copy 160GB of data from the Lacie (via USB 3) to one of the T3 drives. It took right over an hour total time. I then took that T3 and copied the data to the second T3 to see how long it would take. 8 minutes. Yeah, 8 minutes.
Not really as test test, but for fun, I had to move something else off the Lacie that was about 2GB. It took approximately 30 seconds to move to my desktop. The Macbook Pro has a 1TB SSD. I then moved the data back to the T3 from the MBP. It took 4 seconds.
Obviously I have no long term usage and this wasn't scientific, but these look to be OUTSTANDING drives, speed wise. I also have 4-5 USB 3 keys that I need to test to see which is fastest.
These things are so small too!! While a bit expensive, I highly recommend them if you're doing any photo editing or video/editing work.
