Samsung Syncmaster T260 really that bad?

I'm considering the Samsung T260 and will use it mostly for office work, programming etc. After reading reviews like http://hwt.dk/literaturedetails.aspx?LiteratureID=13857 (in Danish), I am concerned that I will be disappointed. Translated from the review: "For office work, text and graphics, I have to admit that the screen is a bit too big for the bad viewing angle. Text along the edges isn't "clear" and for graphics, there is a slight change of colors depending on your eyes' position to the screen."

Can any T260 owners comment on this?

I'm currently using a Dell 2001fp from 2005 (1600x1200). I believe it is an S-IPS panel. Apart from two replacements (uneven backlight), I've been very happy with it. Text is clear and colors look "right". It cost almost twice the price of a T260. Is there a chance that the Dell is in fact a better quality panel than the Samsung T260?

Any comments are appreciated. I really like the specs and the price on the T260, and I don't need the absolute best of the best screens, but it has to deliver for normal desktop use.

I'd think a 25.5" display would be too big for a TN type panel. I have a 22" TN and the viewing angles drive me nuts. You could get a 22" Dell 2209WA E-IPS panel for less than the T260. But its also 3.5" smaller.


Its pretty much screen size vs picture quality.

I recently bought a T260HD, that uses a different panel (5ms vs 2ms on T260 and less contrast ratio) but the viewing angles are excellent, way better than my LG L226WTQ so i wouldnt say 26" is too large at all

I have the T260HD and I don't find the screen too big. However, I'm used to TN panels (was using a very low end crap LCD for a few years) and was already expecting the less than perfect image quality. Vertical viewing angle is noticeably bad, though I think that's pretty typical with TN panels.

Since you've been using a S-IPS panel, you'd probably notice more problems with image quality and be more annoyed with them than I am.

The ASUS VK266H is probably a better choice. It's basically better in every category and even has a built-in webcam. It probably has better response time (the T260 doesn't even use overdrive) and it has more multimedia options like DCDi. It's even cheaper and has a component input and SPDIF out (I guess for inputting HDMI, which is nice). The T260's color setup is rather lackluster, but it's ok for general use. Just not as good as the ASUS in basically every category.

I don't have any data on the ASUS but I'm guessing it's faster and I've seen good reviews that attest to its gaming performance.

I would recommend another IPS like the Dell 2209WA or HP LP2475w for you, I guess.

I thought the only difference between the two was that the HD had a tv tuner and speakers. they both have 5 ms according to the Samsung site but strangely the contrast ratio is different on each.

As you know I'm using the smaller Asus VW246H(24" version without webcam) and the colours are actually very good for TN panel,I would say for gaming its excellent,the 26" will have larger dot pixels but then then you get a bigger screen with all the same benefits of the smaller 24" version,the saturation can be adjusted plus you have 5 different pre-set options so colour should not be an issue on the 266H.
