I was considering a Dell UltraSharp, but since I would have to buy it online and ship it here (Argentina), the shipping cost and customs taxes would not make it a very good deal.

So, I have to choose from the models I can get here, and the best I could find was the Samsung SyncMaster 710N monitor. It's not the same version that Samsung sells in the US, it's the Asia-Pacific version (wich we also get here). It looks pretty good specs-wise:

600:1 Contrast ratio
300cd/m2 of brightness
12ms response time

The only thing that bothers me is that it uses 6-bit color (16.2mil). I guess thats the only way it can attain such fast response time. Will I notice any difference between 16.7 and 16.2 colors? Most Samsung 17" lcds have that.

Other than that, it seems like a pretty good deal. I cant get it here for about $380 US.

What do you think?

its a good monitor. I got the 710T for $350 (although it was a kid on campus who bought it in Canada first. It was two days old and I got to see itin action first, so i jumped on it).
If your gaming, dont worry about 6-bit because you will not really notice the difference. However, if you are doing any photoshop, etc and not gaming, may want to look into an -bit panel (or a CRT)

6bit? wouldn't that only be 64 ?

Doesn't it take 24bits to reach 16.7 million? Unless your going 4-plane CMYK?

I have never had problems with samsung value line LCDs or premium line LCDs. Both are great, and usually no pixel problems. I have the 712N which is very similar to the one you linked. Same specs etc. It has some backlighting breaking through the pixel panel, but as a secondary monitor its great. I rarely have a black background except when I restart my computer.

BTW, i got mine for 250US$. I would not consider paying more than 300US$. After 300US$ might as well get DVI.

Is DVI "that" much better? I can't seem to find any dual-input lcd's around here...
I don't have a graphics card with DVI, but what I do have is a video card with a very good 2D analog output, and I don't want to roll out another $200 for a new card. I don't plan on upgrading it in the near future either, it's serving me well.

Well, here in Argentina you cannot go under US$380 for a 17-incher at all. $380 is the best deal I can get.
