I have a Samsung Syncmaster 700p. It is 4 years old now and ran almost 24/7.

In the last few days I noticed that the screen is way too bright and now (on a dark background) you see that the screen is changing its brightness from black (black background) to dark grey. All this goes very fast so it looks like a sort of continuous flash (ever 3 sec or so). It does that automatically and I can't supress it by changing brightness or contrast of the monitor...

If I open explorer and the screen is amost all white and bright you don't see the flashing.

I have my Geforce 3 connected via D-Sub to the monitor... the Syncmaster also has BNC connectors.. I tried these too but the same problem remains

For about 3 months I have 2 PCs connected to that monitor:
one on the D-Sub (GF3 Ti 500), the other via BNC (Matrox G400 Marvel). I change between these two about 5 times per day.. is that too much? Did that switching between the two PCs damage my monitor?

The MTBF of my montitor is sth. like 50 000 h. I used it now for about 30 000 h.

Opinions needed!!!!

Sure, older monitors need greater care. If you have another monitor you can hookup for a couple of days, that might be good.

Is your SyncMaster designed to simultaneously support two different PCs through the two different sets of connectors (DB15 and BNC) or did you just try this on your own and it worked?

Try turning off your monitor for a couple of days - without any use. Then try using your monitor again. When you do this, if there is a real problem, your monitor may not turn on again without power being applied for some time. This would indicate you either need a new monitor, need to get it repaired or need to coexist with it's peculiarities.
