this old lcd monitor, if fixable, would get an oversized crt off our service counter and gain us some valuable real estate.
when you turn it on, the screen comes up and then immediately shuts down. turn it off and back on and it will repeat it. the light stays green as if to indicate that it is recieving a signal, but the screen goes blank within a couple seconds.
do these symptoms ring anyone's bell, and do you think the average "enthusiast" with the ability to solder and use a multimeter can fix this thing? thanks zz03

I wouldn't mess with any tube display like that. There are some very large capacitors in there that can hold a charge for a long time. One bad move can knock you on your back.

the unit is a flat panel lcd, i didn't think it qualified as a tube display. is it?

sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I don't see anything unsafe about tearing down an LCD.

What you may have is described here:

I managed to repair my Dell panel with just the 4 transistors on the inverter. Unfortunately, the display only worked for 2 days after I soldered in the new ones (this was my first solder job of significance). My buddy (who used to repair monitors for a living) said that he would solder it next time, assuming one of my solder joints wasn't up to par.

Its not that hard of a job, but be prepared for disappointment if it fails again soon after.

Interesting. I have two monitors that both do similar things (though different brands). Sounds like it's time to open them up and poke around.

Thanks.
