samsung syncmaster 170n

I just got this Samsung SyncMaster 170N 17" LCD. I actually got the black model from newegg like 3 weeks ago...but it is no longer on the website.

Anyways I just wanted feedback from other users of this monitor. It seems to me that the text displays are always a little blurry. This is not dramatic but it is very annoying. I'm trying to see if my monitor specifically has a defect or something. Any suggestions or feedback is appreciated.

I found it...under display settings -> appearance -> effects. I'm not quite sure if it made it better. The text came out darker but the edges still fuzzy.

Be absolutely sure youre running it at its native resolution...that gave me a headache with my 712n

How do I find native res?

Set your screen resolution to 1280x1024. That's it. If you dont know how to do that: right click your screen, click on...one of the tabs, I forget which, but then it lists screen resolutions, choose 1280x1024. It fixed my blurry text. Hope this helped.

Edit: Also, the Auto Adjust should be one of the buttons on the front of the monitor, but this sounds more like a resolution thing to me...

oooh, the monitor's auto adjust. I thought he meant some windows software auto adjust. Yes I press that frequently. I keep it on 1280x960 instead of 1280x1024 because the 960 keeps the proper 4:3 (800x600) ratio. Is this wrong?

LCDs have a 5:4 ratio, at least ones that run 1280x1024 as a native res do. When watching movies and the like, they'll still be distortion free (no stretching or squeezing) if you run the native resolution of the display.

Set it to the native res. It should fix your problem.

I turned on clear type, changed it to 1280x1024, and auto adjusted. The font is now crisp. Thanks guys.
