Samsung SSD: Evo 250GB or Pro 120 GB ?

Which one would you choose as a Windows & Apps drive for a work PC and why?

If you could over-provision both, would that change your choice?

So far the Samsung drives have been about the most reliable out there. Yes, we like superduty products, but the extra space is more important in every day use than the finer hardware.

Size beats Pro, at least in this instance. Personally, I'd would go with a Crucial MX100, but that's me.

For almost all real-world use the extra space is much more useful than benchmark differences you'll never notice.

Also, I'd be equally happy with the Crucial MX100 too.

I have a 256GB 840Pro... well, not really. I have a refurb 256GB 840Pro they sent as a replacement for my original 840Pro that died with no warning less than a year after it was put into service, soooo......

Not knocking it... Samsung makes pretty good stuff. You pays your money, you takes your chances. ...but the 120 vs 250GB is a no-brainer.

The primary difference between the two are the Pro series uses MLC NAND which has a higher endurance rating than TLC based EVO series and it is also slightly quicker when compared to drives of the same capacity.

Whether you need this higher endurance depends on your usage model, but for Windows and apps then it's a fair assumption you don't. Also it would be impossible outside of benchmarks to tell the speed difference.

I don't really understand why you are comparing two difference capacities, but if it's because of price you'll be much better off with the 250GB EVO.

Yes, it's the price. These two are almost the same price. I would have preferred a 256GB Pro, but it's significantly more expensive.
