Samsung SSD 840 Pro "Basic" ?!

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a Samsung SSD 840 Pro and for some reason, some of the shops in my country list it as a "Samsung SSD 840 Pro Basic" (for example here). I don't understand what this is supposed to be. The model is MZ-7PD256BW, and the ones reviewed on anandtech are MZ-7PD256HAFV. So now I wonder if this is simply a mistake or if the difference is only because of the market (Europe), or if it really is a different model. Or maybe the things included in the package differ? On the Samsung page, there isn't even any "Pro Basic" model, although they only show MZ-7PD256 as the model.

Does anyone know what this "Pro Basic" model is, and if there are any differences to the actual "Pro" version?

Thanks!

Allright thanks. Another question: On anandtech and other sites, they usually review the higher-capacity version of a model, i.e. the ~250GB versions, and not the ~120 ones. How do they usually compare, e.g. in the case of the Samsung SSD 840 Pro or the Plextor M5S? Any ideas?

BULK 20 PACK (Split by reseller to singles)
OEM -
RETAIL - duh - sometimes better warranty.
retail plus game - some of these 840's come with a game - no free lunch

p.s. the 128 sucks balls compared to the 256 or 512 not sure why? lack of ram or something. i'd get a 840 non-pro 256 over a 840 pro 128 all day long.

I think the reason why the smaller drives are slower in sequential writes is because the data can't be written to as many dies/channels in parallel as with a larger capacity drive.

I just wonder how much difference it makes in practice. I don't really see the point in getting a 256 GB drive today, as I think with TLC becoming popular we'll see a massive rise in GB/USD in the near future and I'd rather wait to get a 512GB drive or something to complement the one I buy now.

But I can't seem to find a benchmark comparison for th Plextor M5S 256GB vs 128GB models. The only thing I know is that the specified sequential and random writes are lower and it has half the cache...:

But can you really feel that difference?

Lower capacity SSDs are a bit slower in write speeds. Thats because of lower bandwidth caused by fewer NANS chips on the PCB.
