I recently paid about $200 apiece for the 1TB F1's, very quick and have been working great. They are being used as backup e-Sata drives. 4 drives total getting daily cycles of 200GB per drive.

It would be helpful if you could list some good sources/forums as to the problems theyre having. So educated readers have an idea of what to expect.

So to start, Newegg user reviews: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16822152102

And I'm hoping they fix things quickly... I really wanna stick a dozen of these in my server...

It would help if you summarized... :) (j/k)

I read those reviews a while ago and it looks like the problems are:
1) NCQ + Nvidia chipset == disable NCQ
2) some harddrive check utility from Samsung + drive = incorrect results == don't use util
3) SATA300 + some mobos = problems == set jumper to SATA150 on drive

Is your server using Nvidia chipset? If so, WTF! If not, what are you waiting for? Sure the utility issue is lame but if they work with SMART than everything should be fine (assuming you use backups as after all one thing is true no matter what: all hard drives suck).

No, my file servers are low wattage P3s on Intel mobos... and one is on a Via C7D platform...
All servers are less than 45w w/o drives... under 100w with drives...
Actually, I cant wait for the 500GB laptop drives expecting later this year...
4 x 500GB laptop drives in a 5.25 bay... 12 x 500GB in place of 5 x 3.5
sigh...

However people can compare this with the Seagate @ BB if thats an option.
I'll probably end up getting some of both...

The Green Initiative...
Energy Effecient Servers...

1) It's a bit silly that everytime a flaw is revealed in Nvidia's dodgy chipsets that the hoi polloi instead blame the problems on the the industry standard devices.
2) Samsung HDD Utility 2.11 dated 20080222 works with this series. It is now referred to as ES-Tool rather than Hutil.
3) Jumpers were eliminated during production of the previous T series. Autonegotiation simply works... at least with five-year-old Intel controllers.

All my SATA problems on 2 motherboards and 3 drives were the result of NVIDIA chipsets. To give Samsung some slack one of the drives was a western digital.
First 3 months all was good then out of nowhere started getting MFT$ write failures and drives disappearing. Would begin to happen faster and faster every time.

Moved them to my P35 mobo and moved the data out and formatted the drive. Moved the data back and no problems at all. Been 6+ months now not a single drive/data problem.

I think its deeper than NCQ for NVIDIA's chipset. As I understand there is a driver problem as well.

If you use an Nvidia chipset, I suggest using the built in microsoft drivers. Their controller drivers have issues in my experience.

Yea, I was going to get 1TB, but then noticed the 750MB and for the price I just bought it.
We'll see how it performs. I have Intel chipset and don't worry too much.

NCQ work with the Microsoft drivers on the nForce (3)?

Vista has AHCI drivers installed (NCQ?), but I'm not aware of XP having those drivers.

The price per gigabyte is definitely better on the 750's. I'm in for two.
