That's actually a good price, but you'll want to edit your post to reflect that it's the first 1 TB HD to have 3 platters.

Has any of the other models showed up? I am really interested in the 640GB model.

Very nice.

I assume performance is expected to be very good with these?

Samsung claims that thanks to only three platters versus four of five that rivals? products feature, its SpinPoint F1 will be generally more reliable than those from Hitachi and Seagate. Still, even using perpendicular magnetic technology, creating a platter with 334GB capacity is an uneasy task and it is uncertain whether the company?s 1TB drives are economically as efficient, as those from the competitors.

Anyway, the price premium for these is not worth it IMO. I'd get a pair of 500GB drives myself. At least if one drive fails you still have half your data left on the other drive. 1TB of data is just not something I'd ever trust. I'd force myself to get a pair of them and run RAID 1 minimum.

I am just happy because now their is more competition and the prices will start dropping. I am trying to wait until after X-mas and buy a 750 GB or 1 TB for under 19 cents a GB. I prefer a 1TB HD though.

Wow, these things were supposed to be out months ago.
review doesn't look too bad, but still generally overtaken by Raptors, WD's 7500AAKS, and Seagate's 7200.11s. Still, it's usually at the top of the pack in the graphs.

EDIT: oops, looks like these things have awesome write and read performance. Lookin' good...
