Samsung SPH-A460 - anyone care to comment on this phone?

Anyone have this phone and can give recommendations on it? I looked it up on epinions - it was either all good or all bad, something about weak reception and how the phone would never pick up calls. I have a Samsung N240 right now - drops calls like crazy - threw it against the wall tonight so tomorrow I need to get a new phone. If someone can give me recommendations on it about how it's treated you I'd appreciate it

i have it...its comparble to my previous phone (motorola timeport). not the greatest reception...but also not the worst.
pretty slick design. my only real complaint is that it doesnt have any real rings, it only has tunes.
so overall i don't have much to complain about...of course i got the phone for $55, so it was a pretty good deal...

hope this helps...

Thanks for the replies! Is the bad reception like dropped calls and/or signal faded errors, or just few bars? I can live with few bars - I've never been able to get more than 1 or 2 around my house anyway with any phone, it's the signal faded errors that drove me tonight to destroy my current phone.

ive had the 460 for a couple months and its alright, but the reception does suck. I usually get one to 4 bars around here and alot of times it has an echo ( like 1/2 a second after you speak) . the echo usually doesnt bother me too much but sometimes its almost as loud as you speak. ive only had the "signal faded" thing happen to me once - when i got inside a really shielded elevator and the doors closed.
the ringtones suck, there is no regular ring

I think it's highly dependent on where you live. I've had Sprint for 2.5 years, and it's been "relatively" great. Sprint is notorious for sucking in Cali though (I'm located in Dallas, TX)

Erm, the A460 is not color.

As for the reception, I was REALLY worried about that when I got it, but I gotta say, it's 1-bar reception beats my SCH8500's 3-bar reception any day of the week!

My ONLY complaint with the phone is not, oddly enough, a complaint about the phone. It's that Sprint decided to be ass-weeds and block access to ringers from anything but their craptastic Ringer & More site, which is the stupidest thing I have ever heard and hope they put the crack-pipe down and cut it out.

Anyhow....good phone, I think some people around here get more caught up in how many bars it has instead of wether or not the singla is actually there. (I also like the fact that in fringe areas I get WAAAAY better roaming quality, I get Digital roam where all my friends get analog roam)

Samsuck phones are known for spotty reception. A500 is suppose to be pretty decent. Anyway, that ringer thing is a quack. There are pleny of site with free ringers/games/screen savers for Vision phones. Anyway, if you need a new phone, get a Sanyo 4700/4900. Nothing but praise for those phones.

Well, my cousin has one, and it's one of the worst performing Sprint PCS phones I've ever seen. It drops calls like crazy, and battery life isn't the greatest for him.

Balthazar - thanks for the review. Yea a lot of people confuse less bars = crappier reception, which is totally not true. (Even my current POS phone - one or two bars was phenomenally better than any of my older phone's 4 bars)

Nutbucket - the only reason I did not consider either of those is because of size - it being elongated turned me off. A friend has the 4900, got a great deal on it, but that thing is bigger than my first ever Sprint PCS phone. It costs like $20 more than the A460 which is obviously a major selling point but just the overall bulkiness of it turned me off from getting one.

Garfang - is your cousin up in MN? How was his previous phone?

My gf has it, and she gets fine reception. I think it has to do more with your area, and the phone has very little to do with it. She lives in South Texas by the way. She likes the phone very much. It is basically like a non-color version of the A500. It has most of the same features, except color and 3g data capability. It does have 3g voice.

dude, samsung n240 is known for bad reception/bad battery life, whoever suckered you into buying that phone should be kicked in the groin.
Anyway .. get Sanyo 4900, much better reception and stellar battery life. Trust me, you'll be happy with 4900 if you dont mind the size :)

I've had A460 for 6 months now and couldn't be happier. I live in Louisville, KY and Sprint coverage is consistently good throughout metro area. I also traveled with this phone to Indianapolis, Chicago, Orlando, St Pete, Sarasota, Minneapolis, Baltimore, Washington DC and ALWAYS had good reception. I have been with Sprint for two years and NEVER had a dropped call.

Stay away from Samsung phones! They make other great electronics, but their wireless phones as a whole have the worst reception (as has been mentioned)! Go for a comparably priced Sanyo.

Aceshigh - thanks for the review! My area seems fine overall for Sprint - my previous phones were great (Qualcomm 2760, 2 different Nokia 6185's, Samsung SCH-8500) in terms of reception and dropped calls, just this N240 sucks :| Just curious if they use somewhat of the same technology in terms of antennas and reception and that sort of junk. Does it have a wireless web browser? (Not that important, just curious)

I would love to considering the 4900 is in the same price range + PCS Vision but for the reasons stated above I have ruled it out. My 8500 was a great phone - in fact it's the only phone I've owned that managed to get a Sprint PCS signal at school on campus in my pocket

AnyMal - thanks for the tips, that's the stuff I want to hear :)

SyahM - actually I picked it :( I only did b/c generally I hate flip phones - I was tired of my 8500 and the N240 was the only non flip phone that doesn't look like it's from 1980. It was cheap so I figured what the hell. But damn you're right - this phone blows...

You want someone to tell you to go ahead and get this phone, don't you?

I won't be the one. If your home is in a marginal area, which it is if your current phone dropped calls there, you should probably try another Sanyo.

BS. I, along with many others that I know, have been using samsung phones for years with no serious issues. They are not any better nor worse than any other phone. And as others have already mentioned, reception also depends on location.
