Just wanted to know as far as the SIII goes there are 2 versions 16 and 32 gigs. Why would you pick the 32 gig over the 16? Can you not excess video/music thru the main menu if you just added a sd card?

I just got the 16GB version and then got a 32GB MicroSD card. Unless you need an amount of space you can't get with add-on storage, get the 16GB version.

Thats what i was thinking of doing. i just wanted to make sure that the memory you add doesn't have some sort of restriction

You can use the SDcard perfectly well for music/videos/photos (taken with the phone or otherwise).

You cant use the SDcard for app storage. (although I cant ever see you running out of app space with 16GB).

Also consider apps that download large files as they are restricted to the card. For example, I pull down a lot of playlists local for Spotify and they are restricted to the card and eats into the available storage.

I had a 32gb Galaxy Nexus before my 16gb GS3. I had pretty much every app I owned on the Nexus and still had about 11gb free. That is with a couple of gb of nandroid backups.
I have pretty much all the main apps I use, which is everything but the big games from Gamesloft installed on my 16gb GS3, and still have 9gb free with 1nandroid.

You can move the vast majority of your apps to the SD card. In fact many versions of the OS let you download to SD card by default if possible. It's still up to the app developer I believe to include this, but I haven't ran into one that doesn't support it yet.

its cheaper to get 16gb and use microsd card..Honestly with the price of memory going down...how can manufacturer charge $100 premium between 16gb and 32gb....

On the S3? I couldn't find any apps that allowed that option.

Thats up to the app developer, quite a few of my apps that cache large amounts of data allow me to specify where to store it, but yeah, a lot don't.

Some people just want the one with the bigger geebees just to feel self secure that another device doesn't have something better than theirs. They might never have come close to 8 GB on their current device but would get the 32 GB SIII while quarterback moaning that another phone doesn't have a SD slot. Or they WILL use 64 GB loading movie rips onto their device that are just there and new watched except for the occasional device demo to others.

Mobile gadget psychology 101 :)

The rest of us are happy with the perfect device that meets our needs even if sometimes it doesn't have our every want.

If it doesnt have your every want its not the perfect device. :p

I want 512 GB of storage and a 9000 mAh battery.

See what I did there? :p

I only buy a new phone when there is a pressing need (current one damaged or dying) or when there is a monumental milestone in technology.

So the 16 GB and 2020 mAh batter in my DNA, the two specs it's criticized for, are still an upgrade from my Droid X, let alone everything else. Makes the choice easier if you're not coming from a device with 1 TB of storage.

I do indeed. :D

Thing is though other manufacturers have managed to put large non removable batteries (Motorola) and SDcard slots (Samsung) in their high end phones. So its not like I'm asking for anything unreasonable.

Its undoubtedly a great phone and for you sounds near perfect ( :p ), thing is if they'd just tweaked it it could be the near perfect phone for every Android user.

If the DNA had 64 GB of internal, a SD card slot, and a 3000 mAh batter, HTC would be sued out of existence with anti trust lawsuits or put every other phone out of business for the next 3 months.

 I'm not aware of any agreements that limit the amount of storage or battery size allowed in a phone.

I doubt that they would put everyone else out of business, there nothing to stop everyone else doing it (unless I'm missing something from your post).

Just saying there wouldn't be any competition or choice at all, all other phones would be obsolete instantly.

It would certainly be popular, but there's no rule that says you have to gimp your products to help others.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have 32-64GB and a 3000 mAh battery, but it doesn't really affect me or keep me from enjoying my new toy heh. I just commented because it seems waaaay too many people are psychologically traumatized by what various phones have or don't have and have to post pages about it. :D

Same reason Intel can charge so much for a hex core. Cause they can.

i think you have that reversed.

That is correct. International phones got the quad core so Samsung gave US phones the extra gb of ram. At this point in time I think the extra ram is more important.

App2sd support no longer exists since 3.0(honeycomb). For phones it was dropped in 4.0 and up(ics & jb).
There are hacked ways of doing it, but it is not easy and you have to be rooted and usually have a custom kernel that supports it.
