ok every time i go to update my firmware for my samsung drive model number SH-S223F it brings up an error

(THIS FIRMWARE IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE SELECTED DRIVE).

I assure you i have download it from several different spots and it is the correct firmware. I even double checked the sticker on the drive and I have all the information correct. I have also tried 4 other updates for that same drive and they all dont work.

Where I purchased it from
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16827151171

This is one of the spots I tried to download my updates.

If anyone has any idea on how to fix this I would really appreciate any help i could get.

MY PC

Vista 64 bit
Core I7 966
Gig exteme
Intel x25-m
2 Velo 300gig/raid 0
2 Gkill 6G triple channel kits = 12g
1500 Watt thermaltake powersupply
Samsung burnder SATA (the one im trying to fix)
Thermaltake xaser case.

If you need to know anything else please ask.

Ok I got the update installed. I ended up changing to a different controller input and it worked fine. My gygabyte one must not be working correctly. It allowed me to do the update.

The only problem I have now is under device manager it states

DEVICE STATUS

This device is working properly.

Windows did nto start a related device driver. To learn more click the driver tab then click driver details.

Under driver details it says
C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys

any ideas I would really appreciate it

The burner does work though. Infact it works great. Its just everywhere I read it states make sure you do the firmware update or you will burn out the drive. So after fing around with it for a bit I got it. Now I cant get that little error to go away. The error was also there before I did the update.

read here be warned you are going to have too read some pages to get what you want but it will be worth it. basicly you need to modify the flashing software to not check the firmware and just flash. i have the same burner and use the firmware patcher from there to modify mine all the time

Just out of curiosity, what's the benefit to flashing the firmware? Extra features? I've never done it.

yes, you get extra features such as unlocked ripping speed. most retail DVD burners have the rip speed locked at 2X with the utility bruceb linked too that unlocks it plus some other features
