Samsung SH-203N SATA DVD Burner slowness...

So my problem is this: ever since I bought this drive my computer slows down to near unusability while ripping/burning/copying files off a disc. By slowing down, I mean programs take a unusually large amount of time to load and switching between already open applications is very sluggish. I have no idea why this would be. Is there some setting I need to change somewhere? I used to have an older DVD burner that was plain ol' IDE and it didn't cause the extreme slowdown that this one does. I've tried searching with Google about this issue but turned up nothing.

Check your hard drive Ide and make sure it hasnt switched to PIO mode. Also, if the hard drive is WD make sure its set to master with no slave (usually jumper removed) or they can sometimes have issues. WD is the only drive that does this to my knowledge
