Samsung SD-612 DVD drive won't read DVDs

Hey, I got this drive about a month ago, but did not have any DVDs to test it with until now. Here's the thing, the drive reads CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs just fine. But when I put in a DVD (At any time: before/after POST, in DOS, in Win98SE), the drive blinks for an indefinite amount of time, just trying to spin it up I guess. If it ever stops blinking, in windows, trying to access it returns not accessible error. It behaves the same way a regular CD drive would if you put a DVD in it. I have the latest dma firmware, and DMA is enabled on the drive. I don't have a decoder card, but I do have software players (AsusDVD). I have the Asus A7V motherboard. Many thanks.
