$7.7 billion in the quarter preceding the Galaxy S4 launch; 70-75 million smartphones shipped. Impressive.

I'm not keen on supporting the top dog in Android profits, but the competition just doesn't compare on key features and I'm not in the habit of buying inferior phones.

Pretty much my stance too. Samsung does have arguably the best phones. At the very least the meet what _I_ want.

Hopefully this will encourage more companies to make accessories.

I really like the Boot Case but its only available for the S3.

Yeah if you are gonna invest in a smartphone it really makes sense to get the best. You will enjoy the experience more and not feel like you pissed away your money.

I had to go through many cheap phones before I finally learned that lesson.
It applied back in the good old days too. I had a couple low end motorolas and some kyoceras before I finally jumped on Nokia.

Any reason why this estimate came 3 months after Apple reported their Q1 earnings? When will they report the final numbers, at the end of this month? Strange...

Everyone announces their Q1 earnings in late Jan/early Feb timeframe but Samsung does it in mid-April. Is this a Korean thing? LG announced theirs in late February. No one finds this odd? Must be SOP over there to announce things whenever you feel like...

Maybe, just maybe, they would like the first quarter to be over? Hmm? It just ended. Literally, 4 days ago.

Every company's calendar is different?

Earnings reports are like a school report card to investors. It happens four times per year; publicly traded companies in the U.S. are required by law to report their financial results on a quarterly basis. Most companies follow the calendar year for reporting, but they do have the option of reporting based on their own fiscal calendars.

Publicly traded companies registered with an exchange are required to report quarterly earnings. Most use the calendar year, but options exist for a company to use a fiscal year. A good example is the US Government. It uses a fisccl year beginning 1 October and ending 30 September. This is based on the budget cycle.

All such options require are recorded consistency.

How can Apple report Q1 earnings before the quarter is up? They announced Q4 earnings 3-4 months ago. Apple is set to report their Q1 earnings on April 23.

Same here. I want to support htc, they have a great phone with enough features for most people, they have a phone I could recommend for a family member

But it does not have key features that I care about and thus they are getting no sale from me.

At the rate Samsung is going its electronics division will surpass Google this year.

Its at what 220 billion now and if the gs4 adds 10% sales volume over the gs3 I can see Samsung taking Google this year.

Hey Dari Samsung netted almost what lg as a whole is worth in just 3 months so do you still think they are worried about lg lol

Looks like they might of sold just a few more 30k TVs too lol

Samsung is predicting 25 billion net profit on the gs4 for this year so we will see how close they get to that.they set the bar high with that 100 million handset goal

Maybe Korea follows a different standard...
You seem don't get his point. You can't get the quarter earning result before it finishes. It's likely Apple's fiscal year starts on October 1st (the same as my company's), and that's why Apple reported its 1st quarter earning on 1/23/2013.

CUPERTINO, California—January 23, 2013—Apple® today announced financial results for its 13-week fiscal 2013 first quarter ended December 29, 2012
