I have a 46" Samsung LCD TV that turns on with no picture but has sound. I've identified the culprit as a bad capacitor (i believe), but I can't find a replacement. The picture below is a similar one I cropped on a picture from the internet. It says 2W 474K on top and then SIC 460S on bottom. Anyone know where I can buy a replacement instead of buying a whole new board?

Here's a picture (Top right corner) of the white box type capacitor:

Could that piece possibly be this? C-AL;1uF,20%,250V,GP,TP,6.3x11,5 ? I found a part manual for another Samsung with Location CI818 and that is what comes up as the part. If only I could find a parts manual for the TV by Father in Law has, it would be easier!!!

The most likely caps to have failed are the two black/brown Samsung Type WL caps. Their value is 82 uF (microfarads) at 450 volts. Note that these are rated at 105 deg. C and are probably high frequency, low ESR (Effective Series Resistance) types.

Searching Google for samsung capacitor wl finds a lot of discussion about these caps being among those known to have failed in Samsung flatscreens, including a link to the settlement document from the court case over them. I didn't check the doc for a cut off date, buy you should to see if you can submit a claim under the agreement.

You may find them at Digikey or Mouser Electronics. Good brands would include Nichicon and Panasonic. You can probably search the manufacturers' sites for direct equivalents (except for the failure) that will match or exceed their performance. The other thing to watch is that you want them to have the same lead spacing. From your pic, mounting space doesn't appear to be an issue so it won't hurt if the body of the replacements is slightly longer.

Hope that helps. :)
