I was at Wal-Mart the other day and noticed this sale. 600Hz plasma, 720p, 43". Thinking about getting it for my parents for Christmas. I've been doing my homework on this line of TVs, but, I wasn't able to come across any widespread/known issues.

I was going to grab it the other night, but buying a plasma without doing research first is never a good idea. Hopefully it's still on sale when I get out of work.

Anybody familiar with these, or models in the same line?

Do it and do it fast before all of the spec buyers start chirping in with "It's not 1080p. It would be the worst purchase decision you ever made." Your parents (like 99% of the population) won't notice or care.

Not saying this is right, but it's interesting:

For a 43" if you're within around 6' or so of screen you can start to tell benefit of 1080 over 720. Personally, I am that close sometimes to my TV like if I sit on the coffee table and play a game. For now just set aside any concern about my eyes....

" In addition, most streaming high definition media maxes out at 720p, as well as all Xbox 360 content."

I've never tried comparing myself, but it seems like probably OP will never really notice. Except he'll KNOW, and that can be a painful, soul-crushing thing to live within depending on the person.

I already snagged it. Glad I did too, because Walmart was getting low on inventory. 720p is fine for my parents, as they're not movie people, and cable only broadcasts in 720p, so, no reason to dish out more for extra pixels they won't ever really use. Plus their living room is rather small, so this is the perfect size.

My dad's been looking to get a nice big TV for a while, but he doesn't like spending money on stuff like that. He came close to getting a Vizio a few months ago, but I urged him to stay away. He'll be shocked when he opens this up on Christmas day.
