I bought a 'nice' Samsung 720p 50" plasma tv about 2 years ago at best buy.
Great picture. I sat about 15' away, so the 720p didn't bother me and the picture was otherwise gorgeous.
About 11 months in, 'red dots' started flickering all over the screen, and it got worse quick. It was covered under warranty and Samsung sent out a tech with a new panel.
Fast forward a year, and it's doing the same thing, except it just really bit it. There's a 5" vertical stripe up the middle and it's just a rainbow of colors. Doesn't matter what the input is.
I called the service tech who replaced the panel and he said to call Samsung and bitch, and say it's the 2nd panel and the tv still died in 2 years and how do they expect me to want to by another samsung tv if that's how they last. It's a standard entertainment center setup, and the power and everything is ok. Service tech even said everything looked fine when he came the first time. I don't even use the tv that much!
I'm certainly going to try and get Samsung to warranty it, or do 'something' but the service tech basically told me the panels are old enough, and the cost of the panel + repair, in his opinion, makes the tv a throw away.. that the money would be better spent on a new, current gen tv.
Question:
Will tv's be expected to get cheaper in price once Christmas is over?
