Samsung phone and voice recognition

HTC's voice recognition app uses Google and requires Internet access, which I don't particularly like. Does Samsung's require Internet access?

Also, with Samsung's voice recognition app, could I dictate to it and have it write some sort of text note?

S voice does require data.

And yes, it is rubbish.

if you haven't decided a phone, then the best option for offline voice recognition is the free offline recognition built into stock android jelly bean. currently, only available on the gsm or cdma galaxy nexus.

buy cdma from verizon or sprint, buy gsm direct from google.

Google now requires data though doesn't it?

not talking about google now. in 4.1, the system-wide voice input can now work offline, after you do a one-time download of the language pack. you can tap the mic button on the keyboard and dictate anywhere that accepts text, and it now works without a data connection.
